Blind School Classrooms Project

We are a less than 6 month old Foundation with 2 Founder Trustees, one being Remi, who has worked with various IT MNCs.  The second trustee is Wing Commander R V Sai, an Indian Airforce Veteran.

Both the Founders in the past have been informally associated with CSR activities. In order to channelize and formalize with increased focus, the Remi A R Foundation (remiar.org) was envisaged and created, with the intent of more effectively reaching out to the underprivileged / disadvantaged children towards their education, including the differently abled. Part of the ethos is based on the inescapable conclusion, that Education is intrinsic to development, leading to a more evolved Nation.

We are seeking to raise this Rs.2,87,392/- for a Blind School in Bangalore, where 500 children comprising of fully blind, partially blind, orphans, and children of lower income groups like construction workers, domestic help, drivers, etc., study. They have outdoor classrooms made up with rusty metal sheets & curtains, and furnitures like desks, tables, chairs, books storage cupboards in broken down condition needing immediate critical repair, and replacements for 10 classrooms. They do not have the necessary minimum equipment for their Science Lab, Computer Lab & Sports room.  We are soliciting your helping hands towards giving a normal school environment to the children.

The total cost of this School's classroom project is Rs.2,87,392.00.  Roof sheets cost  is Rs. 1,08,281/- for 75 numbers, and cost of repairing / replacing chairs, tables, desk, cupboards is Rs.1,79,111/-. This cost includes taxes and transportation charges, and is proposed to be executed by service minded professionals, from the financially underprivileged class of society. We visualize completing this project within March 31, 2017. Please help us to help them to achieve this.

The Foundation expresses it’s immense gratitude to all the donors for helping us in achieving our first goal of repairing and replacing 7 benches & 7 desks in 1 classroom, and help build new storage cupboards for the Staff room, along with the plinth work on an uneven floor. These newly built storage cupboards will be placed before this weekend at the School. We plan to celebrate our tiny success along with the children in the coming days and we would request all the donors to make time and visit the School, and see the ground reality.  We will communicate the event details shortly.

We have so far raised Rs.36,000/- out of Rs.1,10,000/- towards our second goal. In addition to fixing the roof sheets, we have an additional need to build metal mesh to prevent coconuts from falling on to the roof sheets & thereby protecting the roof sheets. The metal mesh cost is Rs.45,000/-.  This leaves us with a shortfall of Rs.1,19,000/-.

We expect to receive our income tax exemption by the end of this month and thereafter send out the receipts for donors use during their IT returns filing.

The Foundation expresses it’s immense gratitude to all of you out there who have collectively and so promptly responded with your individual generous donations towards our goal of collecting Rs.1,79,111/-, which will be immediately expended upon the most critical priority of replacing/repair of the Blind School childrens’ classroom furniture. All of you would be pleased to know that consequently this task will be commenced on March 6th, with a probable completion date of March 31st, bringing back the broad smiles to the childrens’ faces. Thank you all once again.

Going forward, the Foundation plans to go ahead with the next task of providing roof sheets to the classrooms, to ensure dry teaching conditions well before the onset of the monsoons, for which as you would all be aware we have a projected budget of Rs.1,08,281/-. Collection and completion of this phase would ensure a total availability of minimum acceptable classroom comforts to the children. Please do continue to offer your generous support to the Foundation.
