    Jeevitha

    from Chennai, Tamil Nadu

After her father passed away, I decided to stay strong for my children and give them all that I could. But now, my daughter is close to death and I can't do anything but watch her go through this pain helplessly." - Lavanya, Jeevitha's mother.
6-year-old Jeevitha was weak and tired for many days before she developed patches all over her skin. Her mother thought it was some kind of infection, but was terrified when she started to bleed from her nose. This little girl has higher risk of infections and uncontrolled bleeding but her mother has nothing left to save her.

6-year-old Jeevitha, once an active and cheerful girl, is now battling for her life. Pain and fatigue have become a part of her life. With each passing day, her condition is deteriorating and her mother is struggling all alone to save her from a rare blood disorder.

Jeevitha can survive only with a bone marrow transplant and she is running out of time

Jeevitha has Aplastic Anemia, a blood disorder in which the body stops producing enough new blood cells. It has a higher risk of infections and uncontrolled bleeding. Jeevitha's condition has gotten worse in a very short span of time. Every 5 days, she needs platelet transfusions and every 20 days, she needs blood transfusions. But even that isn't enough anymore. She needs a bone marrow transplant to survive.

"Her body is poked with needles everywhere. She cries so much and is too young to understand her condition. She pleads to go back home. We've been in the hospital for the past 2 months. I don't remember sleeping even for a day. I'm weeping, praying, begging to everyone, but deep inside me I know I'm losing her slowly. 2 years ago, my husband suddenly died of a heart attack, leaving me and my 3 children all alone. I can't bear this pain." - Lavanya.

Lavanya struggles to feed her 3 children, and Jeevitha's treatment is beyond her means

Lavanya has 3 children, Bakkiyalakshmi (14), Jeevitha (6) and Krish (4). Her husband's death was a huge loss to the family and since then she has been struggling to provide even the basic needs for her children. However, with great difficulty, they have been living a modest life. With Jeevitha's diagnosis, their life has again come to a standstill.

"My husband was a daily wage worker and took care of everything. When he left us, I was lost and helpless, but I gathered all my stregnth and started working as a tailor, earning Rs. 5000 a month to feed my 3 children. Sometimes, I have to skip meals to feed them. My brother is my only support. Without him, I couldnt have managed till now. He has already spent  4 lakhs for her treatment. Now, he's exhausted everything. My elder daughter is a donor for the bone marrow transplant, but the treatment is more than I can ever afford. I won't earn 15 lakhs even if I  work for a lifetime, and I don't even have that much time." - Lavanya.
