    This fundraiser will benefit

    Chandhan

    from Bengaluru, Karnataka

When Chandhan did not speak even after the age of 2, Kavita and Mallesh were a little worried. As they did not have the money, they were scared to seek medical help. In their village, the elders told them not to worry since some children start speaking late. However, his parents soon found out that their son was born with a condition called bilateral severe hearing loss.

He gets lost in the world of books where he is not reminded of his disability

Chandhan (10) now studies in a government school. Even though he can't hear and speak, he understands his lessons by reading books.

He can also read lips and understand what the teacher is saying. He loves to study. He is always seen with a book. He gets lost in the world of books. Probably, he finds that more comforting than the real world where his disability bothers him. But…how long can he hide behind those books? ” – Kavita, Mother

I have to save my entire week's salary just to take him to the hospital

Mallesh, Chandhan’s father, works as a daily wager. After years of struggling without help, a relative helped them get Chandhan a hearing aid. He can only hear faintly now. However, he needs a cochlear implant. This implant can help him hear sounds and warning signals like the sound of a horn or vehicles on the road. This surgery would cost around 10 lakhs and is way beyond Mallesh's means.

“I have to save my entire week’s salary just to afford the transportation charges from my village near Dharwad to take my son to Bangalore city for tests. I can't afford his surgery. ”- Mallesh, Father

I wish we had done something earlier…we were scared of the expenses

“We knew something was not right with him. We were scared of the expenses. I wish we had done something earlier. He suffers from a 90% hearing loss. Only now, we have got some hope. I just want my son to lead an independent life where he can study and take of himself. If he can at least hear basic sounds, it would help him immensely." - Mallesh, Father

With your kind contributions, Chandhan can communicate and hear sounds. This would help him study further and have a life that he deserves
