    Baby of Saritha

    from Hyderabad, Telangana

“I can’t tell you how happy we were the day we found out that we were going to have a baby. After 11 long years, our dream was finally coming true. The thought of our home being filled with our babies laughter was so overwhelming, and we just couldn’t wait to welcome him into this world. But now our little baby is fighting death.
His heart is failing and we are unable to save him.”
- Lalaiah, father

They rushed him to the hospital in the middle of the night

Saritha was 8 months pregnant when the doctors found out about the baby’s heart condition - congenital heart disease. They assured the parents that the child will get better with time. Unfortunately, within one month of their baby’s birth, Saritha and Lalaiah had to rush their baby to the hospital in the middle of the night.

“I was putting him to bed when he suddenly started gasping for breath. I saw his body turning blue and his nails black. I knew at that very moment that his heart is not okay. We took him to the hospital and our worst fears came true. He needs heart surgery to survive.” - Saritha

All I want is to be a mother, is it too much to ask for?

The baby has severe obstruction of the pulmonary veins making it hard for him to breathe and the body to get sufficient oxygen-rich blood which is why the baby's body turns blue. Without urgent heart surgery, he won’t be able to make it.

“I wanted to see my baby grow and take his first steps. I desperately waited for the day when my child would call me ‘Amma’ but now, everything seems to be a distant dream. I don’t want it to be that way, I don’t want to lose my child. All I want is to be a mother, is it too much to ask for?” - Saritha

I only have a few hundred rupees left in my pocket

Saritha and Lalaiah are labourers who work on others' farms for a living. They live in a  village in Warangal, Telangana and what they earn was enough for them to afford basic necessities. But lately, neither of them has been able to work. Saritha due to her pregnancy and Lalaiah due to the unfortunate pandemic.

“I only have a few hundred rupees left in my pocket nothing else. How will I save my son? All that I saved over the years and all the money I managed to borrow is all spent now. Please help me save my son, my only hope of becoming a parent.” - Ialaiah
