A few weeks ago, Ruby's ultrasound showed her unborn baby was upside down inside her womb - medically said to be in a breech position. This wasn't worrisome, until she went into labour prematurely.
"I rushed my baby to the hospital with traces of blood around his mouth and they immediately took him into the NICU. The next moment, I saw a group of nurses frantically trying to connect my baby to oxygen support and nasal tubes as his hiccups kept getting worse. I was unable to grasp what was happening when they informed me that not only his mouth but his stomach was bleeding internally too. He had lost a lot of blood and we could have lost him too." - Ruby, mother
These parents were desperately trying to revive their newborn after his preterm birth
The joy of being parents for the first time made Ruby and Mustkeem overlook their baby's low birth weight. They were so happy to get him back home, not knowing that the next hour they would be back in the hospital, anxiously trying to revive their newborn. His breathing was slowing down and his body was accumulating stool, instead of passing it.A terrible bacterial infection is attacking this baby's organs
Luckily, on the day Ruby went into labour, her landlord was there to help her till her husband arrived. But Ruby's pain only intensified, and they didn't have a chance to take her to the city hospital. So, they took her to whatever was in their immediate vicinity."I gave birth in a small village facility due to my sudden labour and came back home with my baby within a day. I regret doing that because my baby looked extremely tiny and weak, weighing just a few grams. That delay has now put him in such a critical state. He has a bacterial infection and was in need of immediate treatment. I was so happy to hear his first cry when he was born, without realising it was out of pain." - Ruby, mother
It has been extremely tough for Mustkeem to cope with this situation emotionally and financially, both. The onus to financially provide for their baby's medical care lies solely on him. He needs INR 8 lakhs to save his baby but his absence from his job due to hospital visits hardly leaves him with anything at the end of month.
This father feels helpless every time he visits his baby in the NICU
"Every day a new infection ravages him and that is how we know that my baby's condition keeps deteriorating. It is painful to visit our baby bound to the ventilatory support in the hospital and watch him fight so hard for every breath he takes. I hardly get 5-10 minutes to see him but even those few minutes leaves me traumatized. Only Allah knows how much my baby is suffering." - Mustkeem, father
Their baby is yet to be named, a joy that Ruby and Mustakeem had been looking forward to since the day he was born. But if they fail to keep him in the NICU for the next few weeks, his days will be numbered. Only your kind contributions can help this baby live now.
Please come forward to support this couple and save their newborn.
