“One day while I was sleeping beside her, I heard her gasping for air. She started crying uncontrollably, I didn’t know what to do. I tried every possible way to comfort her, but nothing worked. We rushed her to the hospital and that was the last day I held her in my arms. Now, I am waiting for the day she will recover"_ Kaviyashree, mother

Kaviyashree's dreams came true when she gave birth to a baby girl, only to see her suffering shortly after

Kaviyashree and her husband, Ramesh, lives in a village near Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. After regular medical follow-up and 7 years of struggle, Kaviyashree finally gave birth to a healthy baby girl. There were no complications during the pregnancy and she had a normal delivery. The baby was in good health for over a month, but then one day all of a sudden she collapsed.

“My happiness knew no bounds when I first held my baby in my arms and it was then I decided that I would do anything to give her a healthy life. I would always keep her close to me and wouldn’t leave her even for a second. But now I cannot even hold her "-Kaviyashree

The baby a few days after birth, before she fell ill.

The baby is suffering from a rare lung disease because of which she is unable to breathe through the nose

The parents had to take the baby to a multispeciality hospital in Chennai per the local doctor's advice and there she was diagnosed with a rare disease called tracheobronchomalacia- a condition which affects the windpipe. She is unable to breathe from the noseA part of her windpipe is completely blackened and weak. She is now kept on a ventilator and needs to be kept in ICU as her condition might worsen. She needs to undergo a tracheostomy-procedure that involves creating an opening in the neck in order to place a tube into a person's windpipe and help them breathe.

Kaviyashree’s husband is a vegetable seller who sold everything that he had for his daughter’s treatment

Ramesh is a vegetable seller and earns a meagre income. He struggles hard to look after her daughter’s treatment expenses. He even sold his wife’s jewellery to meet the expenses of the treatment. And now he’s left with nothing to save his baby.

“Despite hardships, my husband always managed to look after our living expenses. Ever since our daughter came into our lives, he started working even harder and always talked about providing our daughter with a good life. Now he feels guilty and helpless.
