“Every day I am getting about 30 calls from my moneylenders asking me when I will be repaying my loans. Everytime, I stretch my deadlines saying that I will pay them in another 10 days but I know it’s a lie. My son is fighting cancer and he has completed only 2 rounds of chemo. But I have nothing left with me, even the money that I had borrowed is now over - how will I afford his treatment?” - Sanjay, father of 6-year-old Ayush. 

We thought his headache was because he was reading his books all the time

Ayush is in class 1 and not only does he love going to school, he enjoys studying too. So when he complained of a severe headache to his parents, Sanjay and Annapurna thought he was studying too much in the dim light of their house.


 

“His school is quite far from our village in Hazaribagh and sometimes, when Ayush couldn’t get an auto to go to the school, he would often walk. Last winter, he used to come home complaining of body pain and headaches - we thought it was just fatigue. We had no idea that test results would show that he has cancer,” - Annapurna, mother. 

My wife hardly eats these days, she sits beside Ayush and sheds tears

Sanjay and Annapurna’s only child, Ayush, is fighting Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia - a type of blood cancer that affects the white blood cells. Ayush’s immunity is nearing zero and he often runs a high temperature. The chirpy little 6-year-old, who loved playing around didn’t even protest when the doctors shaved off his hair.

“Annapurna never leaves Ayush’s side, she is afraid that something will happen to him. She has almost stopped eating now, she doesn’t even take her medicines for diabetes. I try to convince her but she keeps begging me to save Ayush.”

With no job and increasing debt, I am in constant fear that I will lose Ayush

Sanjay drives a dumper truck in Hazaribagh and makes about Rs 8000 a month. He is the only one looking after everyone in the family - his old parents and his younger brother who is still studying. He has borrowed more than 2 lakhs from moneylenders and also from his family. 


 

“Every night I close my eyes, I am haunted by the thoughts of my debts. My son needs another four months of treatment and I will need 8 lakhs more. Please help me save my son, I have no one else to turn to.”
