    This fundraiser will benefit

    Aparna Madhuri

    from Bengaluru, Karnataka

Jayaprakash is a primary school teacher in Bihar. An ordinary middle-class man, he lives with his family in a small village in the Katihar district. Leading a simple life, he was totally unprepared to face the news that his 11-year-old daughter Aparna was living with a constant threat to her life.

Aparna would frequently develop unusual black patches on her skin.

Aparna had an unusual love for studying. She would prefer studying over playing with her friends. Though this was strange, her parents only thought it was a good thing. They did not realize that their child was actually too weak to play and would only try to avoid playing.

“Whenever she got hurt, even the smallest bruise would turn into a big, black patch which stayed for days. We did not even realize what was happening to her till she fainted in the bathroom about a month ago,” Jayapraksh can join the dots now, unable to believe he had really missed it.

The parents realized something was terribly wrong when she fainted in the bathroom.
On July 28, as Aparna was getting ready for school, she fainted in the bathroom. This was when the parents realized that something was terribly wrong with their 11-year-old. They rushed her to a local hospital. A few tests revealed that the little girl’s blood count was highly abnormal. She was immediately given blood. From here, they were referred to another hospital before being referred to Manipal Hospital, Bangalore.

Aparna still has a chance to live a normal life.

A Bone Marrow Transplant can give Aparna a normal life. She will not need regular transfusions and hospital visits. The little girl is only in 5th standard. She is eagerly waiting for the needles to be taken off so she can go back to school.

The procedure would cost about Rs. 20 Lakh, an amount too big for any middle-class family to afford.

Why they need your help.

“ It breaks my heart every time a needle pierces her little hand. I know it hurts her, but she just puts up a brave face and consoles me saying she will get well soon and then we can go to school again. How do I tell her she cannot get well if her father cannot afford her treatment?”
With some support from us, Aparna can go back to school and lead a normal life.
