“If we had the money he would have gotten better long back and his condition would not have become critical. Just today, his kidneys were affected and he wasn’t able to recognise us. His mother does not eat or speak or leave his side. His condition is now stable, but the doctors have asked us to arrange for a liver transplant within a week.” – Thirupal, Anirudh’s father

Anirudh has been fighting severe liver disease for the last seven years

Anirudh contracted dengue in 2015 and since then never really recovered. That is when his liver damage came to light and since then it has been a constant fight to keep him alive. He was diagnosed with Wilson’s Disease, a condition where copper starts accumulating in the liver – leading to liver damage. He has been in the hospital for almost three months because his condition needs constant monitoring.

“He has missed five years of school, because he just could not continue. His legs would swell up and he would feel faint. But instead of getting sad about it, he started doing flower decorations and said he could make a living making decorations. We tried to keep the details of his condition from him, but he understands English better than us, and knows what is happening to him.”  – Thirupal

Anirudh’s parents desperate hope is keeping him alive

After seven year of treatment, his parents, daily-wage workers in Bangalore, are close to Rs 15 lakhs in debt. They are able to carry on treatment now only through the help of extended family, friends and even the hospital and doctors. They have spent the last two months in the hospital with Anirudh and their brother – a contract sweeper with BBMP – has been supporting them.

This June, he will turn 16. We have to somehow save his life. But for everything – every time his condition becomes bad, we need more money. We have already borrowed more than we can ever pay back. All we have is desperate prayers that somehow our child is saved. I keep praying to God – somehow save my child. I will give all the money back. I will help everyone who asks me for help because I know what it is to beg for help.” – Thirupal

Anirudh can only get a liver transplant with your help

Anirudh’s liver is almost completely decompensated at this point. His parents had been hoping he would recover, but now the only option is to get him a liver transplant and as soon as possible. His maternal uncle is a match and is willing to donate a part of his liver for the procedure. Now all the family needs are the means to save Anirudh and get him a liver transplant.

Save the life of this bright young teenager who dreams of living and getting better.
