“I cannot bear to see my child like this. She does not even have the energy to turn on her side and sleep. All she does is cry, and often asks me ‘Aai, why did this happen to me?’. I have no answer. Tears keep flowing from my eyes. I am completely helpless.” – Ujjwala Meshram, mother.
After her husband passed away three years ago due to a health issue, Ujjwala has been taking care of little Aaradhya single-handedly. Using her limited means, she made sure her daughter’s needs were met, and they were both happy in their small little world.
But as fate would have it, their happy little life was ransacked by a distressing discovery. 9-year-old Aaradhya was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a type of cancer that starts from white blood cells called lymphocytes in the bone marrow.
It is a rapidly spreading form of cancer that can even kill her if she does not receive continued and specialized treatment. Her single mother has still not come to terms with this brutal reality and is struggling to find help to save her.
She is presently in a critical condition in the ICU
Two months ago, Aaradhya started suffering from severe abdominal pain and recurrent high fevers. She was so sick that she had to be admitted for days altogether in a local hospital in her rural hometown in Maharashtra. When her mother saw that she was not getting better at all, she shifted her to a super specialty hospital in Nagpur where she was met with the most shocking news of her daughter’s cancer diagnosis.“After we came to know it was cancer, things worsened. She is suffering from severe infection now and admitted in the ICU. Her condition is extremely critical – all I can do is pray for her quick recovery.” – Ujjwala.
With no one to rely on, this mother is struggling to save her only child
Ujjwala works as a tailor, earning just Rs 200 per day. Most of the money she made went towards her daughter’s welfare – everything from her food to her school and other expenses. Ujjwala selflessly sacrificed her own needs for the sake of her daughter, and now she is terrified of losing her only child.“I will even give my life up for my daughter. I love her more than anything. I cannot lose the only person I have left in this world. Please help me save her. I am begging you.” - Ujjwala, tearfully.
