Gift of Nutrition is an initiative of Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust which serves morning nutrition to over 1,20,000 children across 15 states and 2 UT with the support from the governments of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and Puducherry, and more states in the offing.
This service is largely offered at government schools in rural areas. The 500+ volunteers, come from various professional backgrounds, and include IT professionals, nutritionists, scientists and physicians.
Annapoorna delivers morning nutrition to needy school children in several ways based on the need and geographies, ranging across:
1. Cooked breakfast (Poha, Kichdi, Rice Pulav, Upma etc.)
2. Milk & Banana
3. Nutritious Cookies or Biscuits
4. Nutritious snack (Bread, Bun, Chikki etc.)
5. Protein Health Mix
Annapoorna’s efforts have begun to show tangible results. Attendance and enrollments in these schools have shown improvement! Considering the nutritional value of the scheme, it’s no surprise that the health profile of the children has improved as evident in the clinical tests conducted before and after the program over a period.
The current requirement will support us in providing ingredients for morning breakfast for school going children in Chikkaballapur district of Karanataka.
Typically a cooked breakfast item like upma/rice pulav/kichdi pongal would cost Rs. 5 per child per day. This model of providing ingredients to school authorities and using the school kitchens to prepare breakfast helps in the involvement of local school and village members and brings in a sense of responsibility engaging them "Selfless Service" for their children in the villages.
Total of 10000 School children of Chikkaballapur Taluk will be benefitted providing this breakfast for 3 Months.
