We, the students of SDMIMD, Mysore, are trying to raise funds for Divya Deepa charitable trust for its noble, innovative and unique mission of providing enriched learning experience and shelter to opportunity deprived –“Out of System” children.
Who are these Children?
School dropouts, Child labourers who have missed the sunny years of their childhood, Children from traumatic backgrounds, Children from broken families, underprivileged children from rural illiterate parents.
The trust is running a free children home, 'Kaliyuva Mane' where these kids are given accommodation, food, clothing, medical care free of cost, in a homely atmosphere charged with LOVE, CARE & EMPATHY. Kaliyuva Mane is registered with Department of Women & Child Development, Government of Karnataka under the provisions of Section 34(3) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000 and Amendment Act, 2006 as a Child Care Institution.
THERE ARE NO SCHOOLS FOR THESE 'OUT OF SYSTEM' CHILDREN TO LEARN.
Regular schools consider all children as machines with equal learning efficiency, who can learn a predetermined textual content within a stipulated period of time, in a predetermined way. If all children learn this way there is no problem.
What is the future of the children who cannot learn this way?
Is there a school for a mentally normal, 12-year-old child with IQ:100, but at an academic level of 3rd standard?
As per RTE Act, such a child can join age appropriate 8th standrd in any recognized Government school. But without prerequisites, can such a child be able to learn? All these are OUT OF SYSTEM children.
As per the trust and its founder,every educated person with values is an asset to his country in particular and to the world at large. THERE IS NO RESEARCH CENTRE ON THE EDUCATION OF OUT OF SYSTEM CHILDREN.
In August 1992, staying in a village, they started carrying out intense grassroots level research through supplementary classes for the rural poor children from 6.00 am to 8.00 am & 7.00pm to 8.00pm. Children's response was good. The result is a new education system based on the philosophy, 'School for CHILDREN' rather than 'Children for SCHOOL'. In 2005, as a logical sequel, 'Kaliyuva Mane'- a full pledged school was started based on this principle.
The school plans to build a dormitory along with other infrastructure support such as compound wall and to get well qualified human resources for the children and so is in a need to get funds.
