    FI2MT - Maternal Care Program

    from Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra

Program area: We are working in the under-served resource poor, tribal and/or conflict areas of south Bastar in Darbha block.

Our Strategy: A comprehensive well planned health strategy has been put in place in partnership with the community leaders and public stakeholders (local health authorities). It has received strong community support and our trained local health volunteers not only facilitated identification of existing good practices & promoting them further but it also encouraged people to accept newer evidence based preventive strategy & practices.

Our immediate objective:  is to improve the health seeking behavior & provide immediate maternal & neonatal care.

Our long term objective: is to improve the health literacy and quality of health care using the e-health technology and point of care diagnostics.

Technical Manpower Development: We have trained local volunteers on minimum perinatal care (ANC, birthing, high risk identification, PNC, balanced diet & Nutrition), point of care  diagnostics as well in using the m-health tools.

Methodology: We are covering 75,000 population. They are going home to home to provide the comprehensive basic maternal health care. Under the supervision of our team, we are carrying out strong IEC activities with modem technology i.e.,   ICT tools ( m- health apps and educational videos especially made for them by our team ),  point of care diagnostics (PoC) and providing active counselling on preparing balanced diet with the freely  available locally grown seasonal food items.

Current status: Due to strong IEC activities and social marketing model, health literacy and the demand for health services and better care is increasing at a rapid pace in a very short duration of time. The demand activated referral network, manpower and other resources lying under-utilized. The cascading effect immediately led to establishing appropriate facilities. System errors were reduced by building the capacity of the local health workers.

We need immediate support: We have been delivering the much needed health care to the marginalized unreached Adivasi population through the fund generated by a few local well-wishers who have been generating small day to day financial support through door to door fund collection. However, we wish to pay some honorarium to the unemployed locally trained young volunteers, pay for their travel expenses while we also raise some fund to procure diagnostics, reagents, medicines,  develop new ICT tools, videos, and conduct training workshops on Nutrition and technology usage.

Please donate to support our endeavor. We need RS (INR) 12.00 lacs a year (2018-19) to sustain the activity while we are planning to conduct workshops for the volunteers on social entrepreneurship so that they can sustain the activities themselves in the near future.
