    BEM High School

    from Mangalore, Bangalore

Tax benefits for INR donations will be issued by South Kanara Culture & Educational society

BEM High School which was started in 1838 will be completed 180 years of its existence. This is not only the first formal School started in this region, but it can also proudly boast that it is one of the oldest Institutions in the whole country.  Presently, the various Sections are the Balavadi in Kannada, Standards 1 to 10 in the Kannada Medium, Pre- University Section and Head Starter, the Play School & KG Classes.  While the salaries of some of the Teachers of the Kannada medium Classes 1 to 10 (free education) and of some of the Teaching Staff of PUC Section are aided by the Government, the aid is limited only to that extent and nothing else.   All the other Running Expenses including those for Substitute Teachers, Office Staff and all Administrative expenses have to be met by the Management which has to depend on donations. To add to this, gradually, when the existing staff retires after attaining the age of superannuation, replacement from the Government is not sanctioned and the burden of appointing staff in their place has fallen on the Management which is a great responsibility. Since the School caters to the weaker section of society, any significant financial support for developmental activities cannot be expected from the parents of the students.

While some changes have been made to the Buildings in these nearly 180 years, by and large, the various Blocks of Buildings are old and because of their age, need to be replaced.  Hence, to keep up with the times, the Management, old students & well wishers have got together with a vision of upgrading all the Blocks in stages and build modern Class Rooms with the latest amenities and facilities which can be enjoyed by the students. It has prepared a comprehensive plan for the development of all the Sections of the Schools.

It was decided to approach Philanthropists, Well Wishers, Corporate Companies under CSR Projects and other Donors to offer their generous donations for this purpose.  Initially the first Block with the amenities is expected to cost, We sincerely request you to consider it as a great opportunity to serve the society through giving education to the not-so-fortunates so that they can face the future confidently with no inferiority complex when competing with the students of prestigious Schools..

Your generous donations can be sent to  South Kanara Educational & Cultural Society (Regd) which is recognised by the Income Tax Department to receive donations which are eligible for Tax benefit under Section 80G so that it may be utilised by the Building Committee.   Further, the Society has permission from the Central Govt. under the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act (FCRA) for donations in foreign currency.
