Dad is the pillar of a family, your first hero, someone you look up to for strength, love, and inspiration right from the very beginning since you start understanding life. Similarly, I've grown up watching my father working hard for a family of five to give us the life, the education that we have today. Today, he is fighting a terminal liver disease and requires an urgent liver transplant. I, Somya Tomar, his daughter needs your help to save his life.
My father is a retired Railways Employee and is a known case of cryptogenic liver cirrhosis with portal hypertension. It was in 2009 when he first had an episode of hematemesis and was hospitalized for the same. Shortly after that, he witnessed one more episode of hematemesis following an ICU admission as he was in hypovolemic shock, which is a life-threatening emergency. It was then that the doctors diagnosed him with liver cirrhosis with portal hypertension. We were well informed about the seriousness of the disease.
It's a progressive disease with various co-existing life-threatening complications affecting multiple organ systems of the body like kidney, lungs, brain and gastrointestinal system. Doctors advised us for a six month follow up routine till the liver works considerably well but the only definitive treatment being "Liver Transplant". Doctors told us that there might arise a situation where he would have loss of consciousness, episodes which might end up in a coma, severe breathlessness, life-threatening episodes of hematemesis.
We were mentally prepared for the situation and had reasonable savings with us but we had an idea that we will be given a window period of atleast a month before the surgery for necessary preparations as Liver Transplant is a specialized surgery performed at limited institutions in India with an average cost of ~25-30 lakhs. Unfortunately, 15 days back we had to admit my father in an emergency condition with severe jaundice, severe ascites, diarrhea and severe stomach ache. On admission, we were told that the liver has gone into failure and he is having acute kidney injury as well with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis and severe breathlessness.
We have already spent half of our savings before the surgery in the pre-surgical work up so that we can manage his critical stage. Now the doctors have secured his kidneys but his liver has gone into complete failure and we have been informed that he needs an emergency life-saving transplant within a week. I'm short of INR 10 lakh and I'm unable to arrange this huge amount at such a short notice. I'm trying all possible means including public forums as my father requires this surgery and he has got limited time.
I and my brother are undergoing tests for donor evaluation but we are helpless to take the case any further because of our tensed financial condition. Please come forward to help my father.
