Arun Karthick is a 26 year old Engineer, just promoted as a senior engineer in his firm, Plintron Global Technology Pvt Limited. He finished his engineering 4 years ago and has worked in Pune and Bombay and has got into this new job. His father and mother are daily wage earners working in a cooperative society in Srivilliputur. This young man had Protein C deficiency ( substance produced by the liver which prevents clotting). This deficiency led to clotting in the veins of the liver leading to a condition called Budd Chiari syndrome, within 3 months of him joining in this place.
When he came for appropriate liver care, he developed clots in the vein in the chest (superior vena cava ) and developed pulmonary embolism, a life threatening condition. We treated him with blood thinners and he has recovered from the acute illness.
Mean while, the clot in the liver veins never changed and his liver has worsened. He has developed malnutrition, which we are correcting at present.
He needs a liver transplant. The liver transplant will cure his Protein C deficiency and will allow him to lead a normal life. His father has sold his house for 5L and his company insurance will cover 1.5 L. The normal cost of liver transplant in these patients will be close to 30 L. We are raising 18 L for him to pay for the transplant.
The dream of getting him cured, will not happen if his portal vein also gets blocked. If that happens we have nothing else to offer him.
He is a young man with a good life ahead. The only thing that stands in his way is the ability to pay for his treatment.
Can we help him?
