A lil warrior needs urgent help. Please read:
Akshaini aged 8 years was diagnosed with leukemia (CML in blast crisis, a rare type of blood cancer in children) in June 2018. After undergoing intensive chemotherapy followed by radiation, she underwent stem cell transplant in Dec 2018. Luckily her baby brother Rishaan (2.5 yrs) was found to be a perfect match for her and he donated stem cells to Akshu. Things were looking good and she was on the way to recovery when the doctors found out that she relapsed in June 2019. She was again put on oral chemo.
After this she had severe health problems and battled several infections, seizures, gallbladder stones, severe abdominal pain, high BP, mouth ulcers, constipation, weight loss, loose motions, intussusceptions, enlarged spleen, kidneys and lung issues.
Because her body is not producing healthy cells, she has to be transfused with blood and platelets every 2-3 days. Due to extremely low platelets, she starts bleeding from the nose, lips, tongue, eyes, stool and even vomits blood.
Needless to say, treatment is extremely expensive. Her parents have exhausted all their savings and had to turn to friends, family and crowdfunding websites like Milaap to gather funds for her treatment. Because of high prices of chemo drugs in lakhs, expensive antibiotics, investigations, frequent hospitalizations and transfusions, her parents are finding it difficult to fund her treatment. Sometimes they even need to chose between medicines and hospital bills!
In addition, sometimes Akshaini has to be kept in an isolation room with extremely sterile environment. Her body is so fragile that even a smallest infection can be fatal. All this adds cost at every step.
For a middle class family to spend 70-80 lakhs on treatment is very difficult. Also, because she needs care 24×7, her parents have to take frequent leaves and cannot go for work.
Akshaini is a fighter and has braved all treatments and painful procedures with a smile. The only thing she wants is to get well soon so that she can go back to school and enjoy simple life like her friends.
The monstrous disease has come back and it is multiplying aggressively in her little body. Doctors have said that she has very little chances of survival. Hence she has been put on supportive care wherein the current focus is to stabilize her and prevent her condition from deteriorating. She is given transfusions as and when required to improve her quality of life.
However, as parents no one wants to hear that nothing more can be done for their child. Her parents are trying desperately for more treatment options in India and abroad to save their baby. They want to keep trying till the very end in the hopes that something might click and a miracle would happen!
This is a desperate plea for financial aid. Even a small contribution can go a very long way and lessen the financial burden on her parents. Please help this child and the family generously.🙏🏻
