    from New Delhi, Delhi

Imagine if you or your menstruating family members/friends had no access to clean, disposable (or reusable) period products? Hard to imagine, isn't it? Unfortunately, this is the REALITY for thousands of women living in India. 'Period poverty' is a pressing issue that needs progressive solutions.

So can we do something about it? YES, we absolutely can. We have started this fundraiser to increase and improve the ground-level work in spreading awareness as well as necessary period products to our menstruating folk.

‘Sukhad’ aims to provide access to safe and healthy period products to every person who needs them.

Menstruation is a beautiful sign that the body is capable of reproduction; it is a crucial part of the human body, and also an important indicator of health. For most of us, it is difficult to imagine a situation where, as people with periods, we had no access to the products that help us stay safe and healthy.

Sadly, menstruation can be challenging for many women due to cultural taboos, lack of access to menstrual hygiene products, and inadequate education on menstrual hygiene.

It is essential to promote awareness and education about menstrual hygiene to ensure that women have access to safe and hygienic menstrual products and can manage their periods comfortably.

Around 23 million girls in India drop out of school every year due to a lack of menstrual hygiene management (MHM) facilities, which include access to sanitary napkins, and awareness of menstrual hygiene practices.

According to the recently released fifth round of the National Family Health Survey (2019-21), the use of unhygienic menstrual methods of protection among women in rural regions (age 15-24 years) is almost three times that of their urban counterparts. Women in the same age group with no schooling are almost six times more likely to use an unhygienic method.

Hamari Pahchan NGO is actively working on the SUKHAD project to provide menstrual hygiene products and education to women and girls in Delhi. As a part of this project, we  provide menstruators with menstrual kits (Sukhad kits), educate them regarding menstrual hygiene, and create awareness. This is a necessary step to dispel the taboo related to menstruation as well as empowering women and girls with the right menstrual health and hygiene knowledge.

Hygienic period products and basic awareness is NOT a luxury, it is a BASIC NECESSITY as important as food and water. ANY AMOUNT YOU CONTRIBUTE MAKES A DIFFERENCE!
