Our Story

Shivu is an eleven year old kid. He is a bright and hard working student. His parents are construction workers. He is the eldest of his siblings, so he has grown up with a lot of expectations and responsibilities from his family. He helps his mother by doing small jobs like mixing concrete and selling newspaper. He finds joy and pride in doing these small jobs and in turn helping out his family financially.

Hi, I am Dipti Samidurai,  currently teaching forty enthusiastic 4th graders in a low income Kannada medium Government school.
Most of my students help out their families by working after school and during holidays at construction locations & small scale industries/shops. They earn money by doing small jobs like mixing concrete, making bricks, fixing bikes and by selling newspapers. They are wise beyond their age and like any middle class 10 year old, have their own dreams and aspirations.

Why am I fundraising?

These kids live in a very uncertain world. None of the stakeholders expect much from them. They get easily stereotyped because of their background. Being their teacher and having observed their great imagination and creativity, I want to channelize and create a medium where they, along with their mothers are exposed to life skills to be more financially independent, confident and future entrepreneurs.

How will I utilize the funds?

I am planning on introducing both the parent and students to different life skills workshops, namely, how to make, package and sell:

Candles
Soaps
Lamp painting
Magnets
etc.

Kids will be creating products, pricing them, but packing them and selling them through different forums.

The funds would be used primarily for the following:

(1) Classroom stationary.
(2) Raw materials for the life skills workshop.
(3) Investing on Items for kids Safety during the project
(4) On field trips for understanding how the products are made before workshops.

The money raised by selling these products will be used to create fixed deposit accounts in their names which will enable them to fund their own education.

This will teach them to take ownership of their learning and start the process of creating future leaders.

Donate today. Help the kids help themselves. :)
Thank you
