In the heart of India's capital, Delhi, the effects of climate change have become increasingly impossible to ignore. In 2024 alone, the city experienced devastating floods, claiming 13 lives, while a scorching heatwave led to the tragic death of 275 people. The city’s slum communities, are the most vulnerable and face the brunt of these extreme weather events, with limited resources to cope with the aftermath of such events.
Objective:
Through project CPSC (Climate Proofing Slum Communities), the objective is to sensitise climate vulnerable community leaders and to prepare their community for responding to accelerated climate change events while also empowering them to demand solutions from the local government. I would further guide them in maximizing and leveraging the opportunity of the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi scheduled for early next year. This will result in presenting the voices of the community to the local decision makers.
Further, I plan to create a people's climate manifesto to bring the concerns of these communities to the decision maker.

Our Approach:
Workshops will be held in collaboration with the NGO Hamari Pehechan. I plan to create pamphlets and brochures in Hindi, aimed at educating underserved citizens, empowering them to become informed and proactive about action required to address climate, including their rights.
Through presentations and implementing vaious games, I aim to highlight the significance of bringing attention for local level, people centric climate action.
The sessions will include :
1. Introduction to Climate change and Local impact
2. Understanding Climate Vulnerability, Impacts and Adaptation
3. Politics of climate action
4. Granularity of the climate vulnerability in Delhi
5. Empowering Communities to Demand Action from Local Authorities
6. Advocacy and Social Media Campaigning
