SREEJAN, a social enterprise operating in rural eastern India, provides holistic support to alleviate poverty and empower women. Its members are women from poor rural families. The Holistic Livelihood Program it runs in Birbhum, West Bengal, includes capacity building, training, and market linkage services to rural micro-enterprises. It offers credit and related micro-insurance products for agriculture, livestock and rural small businesses. As a holistic program, it also spreads awareness of the rural women’s rights, encourages entrepreneurial abilities and group formation to create social capital, and creates markets for these entrepreneurs. Milaap partners with SREEJAN to provide affordable enterprise development loans to trained and aspiring women entrepreneurs from poor rural families in West Bengal.
