Dear Supporters,

I am Radhika, a fellow at Milaap. I made a visit to Tata Memorial Hospital, Khargar to meet Chandan. As mentioned in the previous update, Chandan had to be admitted in the hospital on 20th March. The doctors, however, have postponed the date to 6th April as the radiation machine is currently in use for another patient.

Chandan with his elder sister, Geeta.

14-years-old Geeta will be the donor for Chandan’s blood cell transplantation. “Because the age gap between Chandan and Geeta is less and also because she is young, the doctors chose her as the perfect match for transplant,” said Amit Shah, father of Chandan.

I giggled as Chandan told his father, “I am not wearing this. It will spoil my picture,” handing over the surgical mask to him.

He moved around restlessly, joy kindling within him. At such a young age, having gone through a painful time in 2007, 2012, which is recurring now, his playful spirit did not display any sign of sickness.

Seeing the love and strength Chandan spreads around, I’m sure he will be fit and fine very soon. I will keep you updated.

Dear Donors,

A heartfelt thank you to all you 122 supporters for such an overwhelming response. The contribution made by each of you means a lot to Chandan and his family.

Here is a quick update on Chandan’s health before he undergoes a bone marrow transplant. Last week on Monday i.e. 6th March, he was given a chemo injection which cost around INR 18000, after which he was called to see the doctor on 14th March. The doctors were looking forward to admit him yesterday.

Due to lack of strength and poor health, soon after entering the hospital, Chandan fell down and endured a mini injury in his leg. This resulted in a slight swelling. He underwent three X-rays for the same. We are happy to learn that all the reports were clear. However, the doctors did not want to take any chances and rush the BMT. So Chandan has been prescribed a 3-day antibiotic course, so that he heals his injury completely.
Also, as a side effect of chemo, he had experienced mouth sores which led to bleeding in the mouth. He has a visit scheduled at the hospital tomorrow i.e. 16th March for a dental treatment to ensure that he does not experience any bleeding at the time of his BMT.

Chandan is expected to get admitted on 20th March for his BMT. We are positive that he is being looked after by proficient doctors and is being well taken care of. Do keep him in your prayers. He needs it the most at this point.

We will keep you updated. Thank you once again for all your support!
