Dear Friends,

We wanted to give you an update on your generous contributions you made over a year ago! Time has flown and we have been extremely busy in the garden!

OUR YEAR - 2018-2019
In Jan-Mar 2018: Our students launched their very first stall at the organic farmers market where they sold saplings from our nursery and microgreens to conscious shoppers.

We went twice a week over the span of 3-4 months until the market shut for the summer season. We approached the market holistically, with teams handling posters, engaging with customers (teaching sign), packaging and finance (doing accounting) - providing a wealth of experience for our students

April - Sept '18 is exam and holiday time followed by the Monsoon so students took a break from the garden - we focused on literacy and planned the garden for next steps

Sept 18 - ONGOING: Here we transformed our garden space and used the majority of the funds that you all kindly contributed and it is here that the project transformed really into a 'lab' space which the students use as an outdoor classroom...

we also re-did the downstairs garden to feature sensory beds and medicinal plant beds so students could learn the different types of plants and the younger students could use as a learning tool

We built art out of waste and furniture from logs from trees that had been cut and left for dead on the road... students learned how to use tools and how to design something from paper to life - creating a sitting zone for our fellow school mates, transforming the space into a true community' space.

Some of these transformations, we did as community workshops - inviting students and families from other schools to partake and learn from/with our students.

We also had some help from Think Global School from America. They helped set up a website Living Labs and also helped us with our community garden work.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE - GIVING THANKS
It's true what they say about gardens - you cant plant and nurture one on your own. You need a community, and everyone that contributed here were the first steps of building that community.  We are SO thankful for your contributions. - none of these experiences would've been possible without your help.

Along the way, i'd like to also acknowledge and highlight our star project lead and team member - Priti Bhosale who was responsible for helping transform the garden into the space you see now.

We'd also like to highlight and thank our soul - affirming volunteers who came on site regularly to help plant a garden and root a community: Abhay, Juhi, Mamta, Nikhil, Dipti, Nikita, Chandan, Reagan, Nikita, Aparna and Adwait.

SAY HI - WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU
We are on the next steps of preparing for our third year of building this community. If you'd like to get in touch with us, host a workshop, go on a tour, or just say hi - please write to us at kriti@aeslife.in..!

In gratitude

Hi Everyone,

I hope you have been keeping well and enjoyed our last update!

I wanted to share some more pictures with you of our garden and keep you in the loop with what is happening on site before we withdraw the rest of our funds!

In the last two months, we've set up our tree & plant nursery, veggie planters and composting station!  We are currently growing a variety of sweet potatoes, edible herbs, gourds and more...We are right now in the beginning of the post monsoon planting season so we have also just sown a bunch of leafy greens such as spinach, amaranth, lettuces, and eggplants and tomatoes.

Our garden has been made of entirely re-purposed waste materials - including container wood, plastic drums and containers, old milk packets for nursery bags and so on....

Check out some of the pics below of our 1) Nursery 2) Veggie Patch Set Up 3) Beloved Drumstick Tree

As mentioned to you in our last update, we are also in the process of setting up our website where the kids will start to sell some of the plants of the nursery to keep their venture going. Also, with the extra funds we are collecting - we have lined up a few field trips to different farms near by so the kids can get their hands dirty and learn from various farmers & agriculturists!

If you have any questions or would like to contribute any further, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me and i will send more updates from the kids themselves next time!

Take Care

Dear Friends & Well Wishers,

I hope you are doing well and keeping safe - wherever you are! We wanted to write to you to let you know what's been happening at our Living Lab at Save The Children, India and keep you abreast of our next steps!

Our students have started building our lab about two months ago and since it's been monsoon here, we've spent most of our time over the last two months reviewing plant basics, creative thinking & plant propagation while also setting up our plant nursery.
students preparing bags for tree & veg plantations

We are propagating a combination of native tree saplings that can be used for re-forestry as well as herbs & veggies that we will use in our garden to help feed the children but also to later sell through an online shop! This will in part help ensure that the program has an avenue for sustained funding well after all your generous dollars have been put to good use.
volunteers helping with the nursery set up

We meet once a week on Thursday mornings for 2 hours and then again once a month on Saturdays.

Now that the rains are over, from September through till November, we will be commencing the major build of the garden and therefore have put in our request to withdraw the funds all of you have generously donated!

The entirety of the funds will go towards buying all materials for the garden space, learning tools & expenses for field trips with the students to working farms & green entrepreneurs - including an immersive 2-day camp.

As our story progresses, we will continue to update you with our progress - including pics from the garden, notes from our kids and hopefully a link to the website!

If you have any questions or would like to get in touch and say hi, please do drop me a line at kriti@aeslife.in
Thanks Again for all your support - we are all so grateful!
