Dear Supporters,
Here's an update:
The funds raised went not as planned as we had the virus...BUT know I never access to this amount of money and without it there would definitely have been more then 3 deaths. We have focused on 5 miracles for they truly are but Mr Cool, Rae, the smiler, Robin and little Rain will not and are not forgotten or loved less. My heart aches seeing only 3 playing outside..but we are blessed, so blessed.
ROCKY
RONNIE & RIO
Initially the multi vaccinations were booked for the weekend 28-29 April. However, I was informed the sterilisations could be on the Monday 30th or Tuesday so we deferred them as they need some recovery time. On Monday Ronnie fell ill, and was taken to Dr Giresh in Paravur had the drip, antibiotics and vitamins, by Tuesday he and Rae were not eating and had lost an amount of weight. On Wednesday , Rama & Rocky went too. Thursday, the day of the sterilisations Robin and Rio also had to go. We had the sterilisations for Rosie, Rain & Pari Thursday afternoon. Friday the day Rae died Ronnie who couldn't stand the day before ..began to eat and didn't need the drip only antibiotics. Saturday morning Robin died in my arms . His death saved lives as he hadnt been able to swallow for at least the preceding 18 hours when the vet heard this he added an additional antibiotic course which for sure saved Rama who had not eaten for 6 days. I took Rosie for the drip from Saturday as 2 days after the op she was still listless, was on a course of antibiotics after the op.We ask the vet nurse to visit and give antibiotics and vaccinations when more then one dog as this saves us money on travel even though we give Rs 200 call out. It also saves the dogs a lot of stress. After the sterilisations on the 2nd, Dilip visited every evening to administer the antibiotics for 3 days as we had to finish the courses of antibiotics both ones for the dogs that were recovering Dilip came for a week.The expenses for the 2nd antibiotic are not all evidenced as I buy them on credit from the local pharmacy in Cherai, the bill there is 1000 but includes skin creams, iodine ointment and all sorts of bits bought over the month for the dogs. On many a day with the amount of dogs, receipts were not requested the pharmacy near the hospital. Similarly there are no receipts for the vaccinations so we are attaching photos of their health doc and stamps. We were lucky as Sunil a partner with me drove us on many occasion and i just gave him 100, the fare without stopping was 200 (150) but charged more with dogs on occasion I had to get the auto to go around the pharmacy to collect all the meds so the price went up and for 3 days we could not take all the dogs at once so there were 4 trips.

Robin smiling, Rama, Rio and our Rae.
This morning, Rosie and Rama (Rama after 6 days of eating nothing barely drinking water) wagged their tails got up and drank milk. Our lives are so full of wants & needs that we forget ..life is a miracle every day. Last Tuesday on the 30th, the day originally set for the sterilisation of 9 ...Ronnie started the drip and antibiotics..in the next 3 days he was joined by his 5 brothers. Normally, I would be largely on my own, but luckily, Anandhu & Naran 2 local boys had started coming to visit the dogs. We have never had volunteers or local support, without them we could not have managed the treatment of so many.Rae- Mr Cool died curled up on his own, the next day Robin our smiler, died in my arms he had been unable to swallow for 24 hours I had sat with him for 2 hours that night. That day Rosie and Rain had started to regurgitate water so they started treatment too. Rain who was very weak had a hear attack that night. Yesterday, Dr Giresh added antibiotics and some meds to control spasms after I told him about Robins death. there was no movement from Rosie and Rama all yesterday..but they did not throw up the ORS I syringed regularly.
And now this morning they drink milk. Robin who was always smiling it appears he has smiled on his two siblings after his death. His dying may have saved them. He is grieved by adopters who had waited patiently for him. Rosie and Rama both too have good homes waiting, a life of love ahead.
Ronnie's amazing and instant recovery kept me going a bag of bones who could hardly stand, we spent so long getting his veins, suddenly stood up ate and 2 days later even looked well. Rocky and Rio followed him with their recoveries and the 3 can now be vaccinated this weekend, Rocky and Rio complete 7 days of antibiotics today and homed (3 days after their antibiotic course). Rocky, has a local home I will bring him home in a month and get him sterilised, Rama similarly. Rosie has been sterilised ..Rio and Ronnie still need homes so I will book them for sterilisations towards the end of next week.
The fact that the pups were 100% when they began to drop from this virus helped but they were in such bad condition when we collected them that their immune systems could not have been strong. It looks this morning like 5 will survive, Rama and Rosie I will take to hospital again today.
Yesterday's treatment cost 1200, 2 pups to Paravur and the pups here getting their antibiotics in the evening. KNOW that had these funds not been accessible to me the pups would have died.. I had NO time to fundraise. All receipts will be scanned today, I will do the accounts and load here. I honestly haven't had the time.
Today is the day to focus on life and know how fragile it is, How lucky how blessed we are, we have so many pups thriving in loving homes.
We will always love Rain, Rae, and Robin...Robin whose smile we feel yet, little Rain so timid slept on my chest the day he stopped, and Rae whose cool laid back charm made me laugh so often..but we have been so, so very lucky, funds, volunteers and Paravur Vet Hospital so patient..so kind. 5 living FIVE little souls reflecting the smile, the cool and the gentleness of their 3 siblings.
I am humbled by the strength and trust of these great souls in small fragile bodies.

This time last week we delayed the vaccinations, as expected the pups to be sterilised on Tuesday. They were all well, noisy & playful. Monday Ronnie started to be listless only ate a bone..by Tuesday Ronnie and Rae went to hospital for a drip antibiotics and vitamins. Tuesdays sterilisations were deferred to Thursday but we couldn't vaccinate as didn't know what was knocking the dogs out On Wednesday Ronnie, Rae, Rama & Rocky went to hospital Thursday they were joined by Rio and Robin.
We sterilised Rosie, Rain and Pari. Parvo is rife we are still not 100% thats what it is. There is a kill parvo vaccine that helps fight the infection but, in spite of the chemist in Ernakulam saying they had it they gave us the wrong vaccines. It cost us 500 to collect and return, and we were lucky as Anandhu and Naran went on the bike volunteers who fell in JUST when we need them most. The trips to Parvur hospital cost 400 on average a tome and the medicines about the same. It can be slow with a few depending on how busy they are normally at least 3 1/2 hours. On Friday night when i went to sit with them just past midnight Ronnie, who had hardly been able to stand that morning was running around as normal ravenous. Rae however had died quietly alone in the corner, in an instance the miracle and fragility of life exposed at its extremes.
Today is Sunday Rio, Rocky and Ronnie don't need the drip anymore only anti biotics and vitamins. But rain has just started being sick and we took Rosie yesterday and today.
Naturally there is the if this was Parvo and i got the vaccinations done earlier.....thought consuming me.. but if i had done them when planned things may have been worse as Parvo takes time to show. Things are what they are and it really is not easy.
Without you donors and supporters here who I have been so lucky to have..the pups would be dead or dying without hope. This money has saved lives.
