Fundraise for a Cause with Milaap : the Best Crowdfunding | Milaap

Hi everyone

I want to give you an update. Crowdfunding has helped Green Trails grow immensely.

Here is our impact so far:
60,000 Kg of waste collected from 25 mountain slopes.
70% inorganic waste is reduced, recycled, or upcycled.
100% organic waste (food waste and poop) composted on site.
40% decrease in water consumption on our treks.
6 villages have undergone the Zero Waste Village Programme.

Developed the fundamental trail and campsite practices. After extensive research, trial and error, we have standardised systems apt for high altitude trekking and camping.
Operationally, we have come a long way in enabling conscious consumption,  understanding where to refuse and how to reduce. We focus on optimising the use of equipment and ration on our treks.
Two months ago, we created training modules for our staff, technical guides and Trek Leaders. We want our team to have extensive training on environmental skills. This way, along with the infrastructure in place, our staff will know in what ways they can facilitate low impact trekking.
Helping 4 Indian states practice responsible trekking.  Currently, we are working to bring in top-down regulatory measures. We want to collaborate with State Forest Officials and Tourism Ministry to help realise this.

Hello humans,

We have received an incredible amount of support from everyone. Thank you!

I wanted to tell you about our journey of 2019 so far:
-  Having enforced segregation at source strongly, we have reduced time taken to segregate by 80% on 3 trekking slopes. The system has been set for all our treks to follow the same.
- Our organic toilet fresheners on our treks have reduced the plastic waste we generate. We said no to 1310 plastic packed room fresheners.
- We introduced a washing contraption on our campsites that will reduce water consumption by around 40%.
- Introduced a 5 phase zero waste project - 1. survey 2. action plan based on data collected, develop back end infrastructure, 3. implement action plan 4. handover starts, work on feedback, handover project to villagers.
- Made upcycling initiative a micro enterprise reaching 3 of our trekking slopes. New product prototypes were made including wind chimes, key chains and bottle lamps  - all from waste! Trekkers have been happy to buy these local souvenirs to take home after their trek. Eco-pillows and windchimes are a favourite amongst our trekkers.

Stay tuned with all our updates on our Instagram account. https://www.instagram.com/ihgreentrails/

This quarter, our focus is on
- Making Sandakphu reach 100% segregation and waste collection on the trail
- Develop 10 module curriculum for waste management to be taught in local schools. We will work together with teachers to roll out the new curriculum in 6 schools.
- Our Green Trails Fellows will complete the awareness phase of the Zero Waste Village project and handover the project to our 6 adopted communities.

I hope we have your continued support. If you have any questions or would like to help out, email us at neha@indiahikes.com
