Thank you all!

Deepak was presented with two problems- severe pectus excavatum (a severe chest deformity squeezing his heart and lungs and hardly allowing him to breathe) and tetralogy of Fallot- a congenital cardiac condition with a hole in the heart and an obstruction in the pathway of blood flow to the lungs. He also had congenital heart block.

A staged procedure was done. A year ago, a team of cardiac surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, plastic surgeons and pediatric surgeons refixed his chest so that he could breathe.  The anaesthetists and intensivists were critical in the management of this patient as he had an underlying serious uncorrected cardiac condition with severe pre-operative damage to the lungs and pain following surgery.

He came back to us one year later looking like a new person with no respiratory difficulty. We took him for open heart surgery and pacemaker implantation. He sailed through this time and is for discharge today or tomorrow.
