We were able to get in touch with the family. We spoke to the babies father. He is a day labourer and earns about ₹300 a day and her mother is a homemaker. They have two more daughters and in spite of the situation, they used to make their ends meet.

After the incident happened, their life came crashing down and they were completely helpless. Noble souls like you joined hands to help them. At present, she is doing good compared to earlier.

She had her routine checkup on Saturday (3rd March) and the doctors are really positive about the recovery she has made so far. Her fever has also reduced and she has started consuming her a mixed diet of food which includes egg, dalia, milk etc to supplement her in her growth.

Her father could not complete his education and due to this, he had difficulties looking for job opportunities. He started working as a day labourer to make ends meet for his family. DCW is trying to help him to get a job of a driver with a starting salary of ₹10,000/ per month to support his family.

"I just want her to get better and feel that she is secure and her family is going to be there to support her whenever she looks back. I will send her to the best school possible. I will be withdrawing the funds raised from this campaign to my account and all the fund raised via this campaign will be used to support her treatment. The excess funds will be used to create fixed deposits. 

I just do not have words to thank all of you for the overwhelming love and support that you have shown towards my daughter. Your support gave us to strength to pass through this difficult time.

As far as the many who have asked us for severe punishment of the man*, please look to @SwatiJaiHind on Twitter. I am floored - FLOORED - by what she is trying to do for change in Delhi. Please support her. Please educate the public about safe sex and that sexuality is not a dirty word, the more repressed it is the more rape happens.

 (*My guess is that public shaming would work best against these monsters of men in India so they cannot get jobs or move forward in life and be an example so other men will not do the same, however I am not in Indian government so please look to Swati for the best ideas, she is brilliant, bold, and brave.) Most of all please teach the younger generation of men - your sons, how to be kind to women, how to respect them, how to see them as so much more than 'less than' - a strong, intelligent woman by your side is a great blessing in life, she will be your best friend, she will help you look better than you ever thought, she will be your number one champion as you to her, she will be your place of compassion and security, she is anything but a threat. Treat a flower with kindness and it will bloom - and make you look good.

We all can contribute to change in various places in our lives with the different gifts we have been given. After work I write in my spare time plays about misogyny and how we can overcome it, if you are a painter you can incorporate it into your work, and so on so please do what you can with whatever your gifts are - well all have them. Thank you again, I cannot wait to transfer these funds to the mother.

PS: Some of you have asked about the picture I chose in my icon. I chose Durga. She is the mother of the universe. She, to me, represents ultimate justice. Throughout this entire campaign as we've been collecting I've kept my eye on her and asked for her help, and look how all of you came to help. Please help us, Durga. Please help this baby get justice.

First of all, thank you so much for your donations! Keep them coming for this precious little girl. I wanted to share an interesting story about raising funds for this innocent sweetheart.

We are running until Valentine's Day - that is the deadline because I wanted to make this campaign about love. Let us show her love. Let us love each other. Let us love ourselves.

When I heard about this last week, I became physically sick to my stomach. I was so enraged and defeated, I felt so much for the parents and of course the little girl.

Friends of mine this year have given births to little baby girls, and I remembered the celebrations, the little gifts, the happiness of bringing a new little baby into the world. How the children were welcomed with open arms, the way they should be. This is the opposite. This is wrong in every way.

I didn't know what to do - how to collect, as I am overseas in New York. But I wanted to do something. Women live in fear in Delhi. Evil men are allowed to get away with murder, literally, and they make the good men look bad. Not all men are bad, there are good men, and we need their help to change things too. Swati is right. This mentality needs to change. Laws need to be enforced.

I didn't know how any of this was going to work and I decided to raise funds on Milaap. Most importantly - I wanted the full funds - every dime, penny, and rupee to go to the mother. I didn't want to send a check overseas and have a random corrupt government official take this money. I reached out to Swati and they put the bank account is in the mother's name, which is good, and it is anonymous, which is also good because this entire money belongs to that family.

I will end with this - on the first day, I felt so defeated because I didn't know what to do in the world, and that night I did my laundry. When I pulled my clothes from the dryer I brought them to my room to fold, however when I began to fold I immediately did a double-take. I don't know how - but there was the cutest baby's sock, sitting right there on top of my laundry in the exact size for an 8-month old child.

I do not have any children. That sock certainly wasn't mine. I don't know what it means, but I had a big lump in my throat.

*Lastly: If you know any celebrities or major public leaders/etc. please let them know about this campaign so they can Tweet and get the word out and speak up for it. Thank you for speaking out about it. Here too I just found out in America there was a rape of an 8-month-old not too long ago, this is disgusting and these men need to be dealt with in the harshest way possible. Let's get the word out and make sure this girl does not have to suffer another day in her life.

I have chosen Durga as my icon because she is the protective mother of the universe, she is is a force that is to be reckoned with, and she reminds me to use my rage as fuel for change.
