At the mere age of 4, Afreen Wasim Pathan, who should be studying, playing with her friends, hiccupping with laughter and just being a child, is being brought up without her mom who herself suffers from the last stage of Tuberculosis and has very little or almost no chances of surviving. She abandoned her family due to Wasim’s drug addiction, Afreen’s father. Afreen is taken care of by her grandmother, Ruksana Tevar who also looks after her elder sister Khushboo who is 6 years old. Khushboo is a school going but not so bright student.

Wasim has two step siblings, Prince and Heena. The whole family depends on the income earned by Heena who has just completed her graduation and works under the position of a CA and earns a sum of twelve thousand only. Prince on the other hand washes rickshaws and hardly earns enough. The family suffers from lack of resources and fights through hardships every day. Afreen’s parents had a love marriage which remained healthy for a brief time till the hardships changed their lives and their marriage proved unsuccessful.

She gave birth to Khushboo at a very young age of 18. This proves that none of Afreen’s parents were given a complete education.
Afreen is one of the 20 children who we are adopting and providing her with an education through the funds of Keytaab. She is a bright student who aced her playschool results and scored an A. We see potential in as we noticed how she was the only one standing up in respect for the national anthem while her family dwelled in negligence while watching a movie.
