Dear Supporters,
We sincerely thank you for your support.

Here's a long-awaited update on the multiple projects at Chennai Urdu Middle School.

  1. For the past six months, a key focus for our school has been on minimizing the literacy gap as early as we can. Towards that, our kindergartners have been following a Jolly Phonics based curriculum to improve their reading fluency. Several of our kindergartners have proceeded to blend and read 3 and 4 letter words. Through this, we have proved to ourselves and our community that language learning is about meeting the need to communicate and enjoying the process and we're never too young to start.
  2. With the hope of being a little more self-sufficient this new year, our students set up a terrace garden at the school. The produce from this has been feeding (:P) into our school kitchen. Through this, our students are learning the art of gardening along with qualities like patience, perseverance, and responsibility.
  3. Our library got a mini makeover last month! Enthusiastic librarians who had flown from continents away for an event spent an entire morning inspiring our staff on ways to transform the library into a learning space and also showing us how it’s done.
Following this exciting start, we’re now organizing a book donation through the wishlist here
Contributions to this fundraiser will also go towards procuring books on this list as well as setting up the physical library space. For now, we're repainting our old bookshelves and cataloging our Tamil & Urdu book collections.

Please contribute to support these projects along with others towards transformation outcomes at the school level.

Thank you.

Hi All,
We're off to a green start with these generous contributions. We're setting up an organic terrace garden that will be our first step towards sustainability as a key strength of the school. The produce from this garden will go into preparing healthier lunches for our children at school.

Thank you for helping us get this far. We've greater heights to reach but this is most definitely a step in the right direction.
We will keep you posted on the progress.
