HHT COVID19 Relief Work Update

Dear Donors,
Thank you for your contributions.
So far, the team in Saharsa has helped close to 1700 families and impacted over 11000 people in the process. None of this would have been possible without your support.

Bihar is seeing a rapid rise in the COVID19 situation due to the influx of migrant workers. So the lockdown is being extended and so will the challenges across small towns and places.

We are getting more requests to help more families with dry ration.
So we are continuing this fundraiser till mid of next month and we will evaluate then again.

Once again, thank you for your support.

Happy Horizons Trust COVID19 relief work update
Dear Donors,
So far our on-ground team has reached out to 1355 families in the Saharsa district. This has ensured helped 8758 family members do not go hungry. We are forever grateful to our donors and supporters for your generous help.

Yesterday was one of the most emotionally draining days of the Happy Horizons Trust's COVID19 Relief work, as the team visited a small village in the district and had to interact with many old people, who were in desperate need. This also comprised of many widows and disabled people who have not been able to get ration.

Most of these people were dependent on doing menial jobs to sustain, and hardly anyone has a piece of land that they could grow food on. With the PDS systems not being very effective (slow distributions to only distributing rice to many times not even having stock to distribute), it is important that Civil Society Organisations step up.

Over the days we have also learnt a lot along the way and improved day after day. Our process of identifying families in need through local village level contacts, coordinating with the volunteers, packing of food materials, informing local administration, daily conference call amongst team members and finally data uploading is systemised now. As a result of this our daily distributions have also increased.

The lockdown has been extended till 17th May, and there are more families who are reaching out to us seeking help. Our only goal is to help as many as possible. A lot of other organizations have also come forward to help out and it is wonderful to collaborate with them, as we know what geographical areas they are working in and can guide people accordingly.

We have also begun awareness campaigns at the grassroots level, where simple information about protection, cleanliness, washing hands, social distancing etc is not emphasized upon. The team of volunteers and members from HHT has been spreading that through announcements and live demonstrations.

The work is tiring, emotionally draining, physically taxing no doubt. But the simple thing that keeps us going, is to ensure families do not go hungry.

We have miles to go before we sleep.

Thank you once again for your support!

Dear Donors,
Thank you for your support.
By this weekend our response team at Saharsa, comprising of the on-ground team Sonu Kumar, Vinay Keshri, Jyoti Gupta and Vatsala Vikram, accompanied by some amazing volunteers, and the support of the local administration; we're able to reach out to 1048 families so far, collectively comprising of 6790 family members.

When we started our COVID19 relief work, we had initially set a target of 200 families, whom we could help with ration for a month. However, on discussions with the local authorities, we were advised to increase our outreach and reach out to more families with ration for at least a week. So we had an initial target of 800 families (also mentioned during an earlier update).

We have gone beyond this target, as the need of the hour demands it. Our journey is not over yet. The requests for help are now coming in from far corners of the district, and our on-ground team is ready with all the energies to help as many families as possible.

Our fundraisers are still active, as we set forth a new target to reach 2000 families.

Thank you each one for your support!
