Hope And Happiness
Often, the first impression of a person a long way. Imagine you casting your first impression as a rather pitiful and of a scared puppy, do you ever wonder what will it take to change it for better; to maybe a more responsible and vigorous one? I know a young boy who just did that.
Time- sometime in late March.
Place- Office of our organization.
"What is your name?"
"Asish Kumar."
"Where are you from?"
All I got was a blank stare and a look of helplessness. Then a soft murmured answer, almost fading out in the overall look of dread and helplessness. " Allahabad"
I just wondered what this young lad was going through to be so dispaired.
"You are going to walk to Allahabad. Do you even know how far it is from here? How long is it going to take to go there? Are you aware that no buses and trains are running owing to lockdown?" A barrage of questions followed. I was livid.
For the first time in the last few minutes, he looked straight into my eyes. He was rather irritated. It was evident.

"हाँ जानता हूँ। लेकिन करू क्या?इधर lokdown से  फैक्ट्री बंद हो गया।  खाने को कुछ नहीं मिल रहा।  सेठ ने फैक्ट्री से धक्का मार के बाहर कर दिया।  रहने के लिए जगह नहीं। गांव जाते जाते मर गए तो यहाँ मरने से तो अच्छा ही हैं। "

Frankly, I was dumbfounded. I could only imagine his plight. Thousands of kilometers away from his village, no food and shelter, and with all the transport closed, he was not wrong to be scared.
I had a hard time pursuing him. Finally, I made him promise that he will stay and will not run away again. I, in turn, promised him food and shelter until lockdown got over.
And he stayed. He kept his promise. To my surprise, he did much more than that. When I saw him this morning, he was volunteering. I saw him helping our volunteers to distribute food and to the migrant families affected by lockdown. The best part? Nobody asked him to do this. He acted on his initiative.
From despair to hope. From being pitied to helping others in need. For me, he is a living example of hope, happiness.
There is no place for negativity when the world has people like Ashish.

I would like to thank you for the belief that you've shown in our work. By 24th April we have distributed 1500+ kits were distributed to the lock down affected migrant families.
The relief work is ongoing. If you can help to spread the word. by sharing the campaign in your contacts...it would be very helpful.

We thank you for the continued support.
