As we have not reached our goal amount, a change of scope in this project has been initiated.  As per the revision, we plan to procure the napkins from a local manufacturer (of course, good quality ones), and use part of the same as freebies to the girl students (to get them into the habit of using napkins in lieu of cloth), and use the balance to support a self-sustaining business initiative to needy women in the neighborhood, through SHGs.

Here is the latest update on this subject.

The total Contribution from all of you is inching closer to Rs 1 Lakh. The last of the contributor was Ramesh Parthasarathy. We will be sending a THANK YOU note to Ramesh, Prithi, Krishnan, and Shankar very shortly.

A team inside AIF has been scouting for the procurement of the machine, and which is when we realised that we are running after owning a cow, when milk is available at several places, even without the ownership of a cow tagged to it.

More over, the machine costs anywhere around Rs 3-4 lakhs, while the money collected till date is only a fraction of the above.

Hence, our latest thinking is to:

- procure the sanitary napkins from a job-vendor;

- distribute part of the volume, free of cost to the deserving school children (and thus build the awareness around hygiene and use of napkins, in lieu of cloth); and

- support the Self Help Groups, formed with the parents of the above school children as members, to market the balance napkins, and thus enable a sustained business opportunity to that section of the society to further their livelihood..

Dear supporters,

In view of the school vacations till end of this month, we plan to procure the equipment, and commence the project effective July 1.
