From Sonu -
Srijal is no more with us ..
Our Kalimpong unit has informed me yesterday evening that during followup they come to know from Srijal relatives about this...
As per Srijal's relative.. Srijal has fever in 23rd night which increase with time and in morning of 24th the things became complicated for and on they way to transport him to hospital he left all of us...
I am confused to react on this news and mixed emotion lead to inform this to you in delay..
Nothing more I can say about this ...

Yes, Srijal, the brave little boy with a contagious smile is no more with us. He had passed away just in a days fever. Due to the unrest in Darjeeling which includes Kalimpong, we haven't been able to collect the exact sequence of event except the above.
But he got completely cured and the doctors mentioned that he can travel back to his home in the hills of North Bengal. And he was so happy to be able to go back home, to play with his friends (though will be in a wheel chair).   We had gone through many troubles to get a reserved ticket for him and his father and uncle - but all these sounds so futile now..
But still his smile, specifically with the red cap, will remain forever etched in our minds .. Let me share those pictures, the day when he was travelling back to Kalimpong.
Will not say "Rest in Peace", as I am sure, you are keeping the angels busy with your mischief and your amazing smile - this world was not worthy of you - dear boy !!

After a long 5 months battle from January Srijal is ready to go back home. With the really hot summer in Kolkata, it's the right time for a Hill boy to get back to his naturally cool home in the Darjeeling hills of Kalimpong area of North Bengal.
Currently he  is doing great . The operation was a great success and the gangrene is cured. His legs are out of danger.  The big wounds are drying up. In-fact, some of them are almost gone.
Though he will be in wheel-chair for a while , before he gets back strength in his legs. But he is ready to go back to his home at Kage Basti near Kalimpong.  He will be back in Kolkata three months later for next round of treatment when we hope he will be completely normal.
Our team visited him daily in last few days - Discussed with the doctor and arranged for all those required - such as wheel chair ,  medication, dressings, other supplies (such as colostomy bags)  for next three/four months as well as some nutritional things for few days.
Specifically, need to mention our volunteer, Papia Roy's efforts in these last 5 months - as I write, it's still continuing.
The train ticket (which is for tonight at 10 ) is still not confirmed. but Srijal is having lot of difficulty in staying for a single day more in Kolkata due to extreme heat. Papia contacted the NRS super - convinced her to write out a request for ticket under health quota. Then she contacted railway officials in Sealdah and gone to the headquarter today morning - though it was closed , she is trying to get a ticket in the VIP quota / health quota. Let's hope Srijal, Srijal's father and his uncle's ticket get confirmed for tonight. The list is probably out by now !!! Let's hope for the best.

Srijal is doing great. .. Again a picture is worth a thousand word ..

As always Srijal is at his best with all his pains and wounds ..
But, more importantly he has got a new friend (the language is not a barrier among them...so a Nepali speaking kid who didn't understood a single Bengali word, just couple months earlier, is best friend with a Bengali speaking kid ... it's only we, the "buro kokha's" (adults) who are creating all the barriers :-( ). Get well soon guys..you are the only hope for us.
Here is both them -

Clinically though, he is still having issues with the wound at the back - So unlike, some of our other patients who are back at home - Srijal will need some time to get cured.  But the way it was  (the gangrene was so spread out that, when he arrived in late January, not only us the doctors were not so hopeful) -  comparing to that he is doing really great. Still, the dressings will go on and might be one operation will be required. Also, he and his father being outside from Kolkata, the doctor strongly suggested that they stay back in Kolkata after they get released in a month or so. So that he can be seen by the doctor and continuity of care can be maintained and proper treatment (such as vac bandage) can be done here in Kolkata itself.

It will be impossible to provide such care in the remote village of Kalimpong in North Bengal. (We have experienced first hand , how Priya got cured, by regular checkup and proper bandage etc.) .
As such, we have to arrange for Srijal's stay at-least for 4-5 months in Kolkata, after Srijal is release. Please continue with your generous donation so that we can make this happen, otherwise, all the effort of the doctors will go in vain.

thanks,
Rajib
