Fundraise for a Cause with Milaap : the Best Crowdfunding | Milaap
16th November 2022
Dearest Friends of VOSD,
The Voice of Stray Dogs (VOSD) is India's largest non-profit organization for dogs. Over 20,000 dogs have been rescued by us over a decade and we admit 300-400 dogs to VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital annually. VOSD provides the most sophisticated and expensive medical care and rehabilitation services at no cost for stray dogs and abandoned pet dogs.

Naturally, such a mammoth operation comes at a steep, ongoing operational cost. Dog lovers and our patrons from across the world have contributed generously to help us evolve, for which we are grateful. Milaap platform has supported us since many years with their technical knowhow and excellent fundraising knowledge and capabilities. We are so grateful to the entire Milaap team.
This continual support from Dog lovers has enabled us to:
  • Rescue and rehabilitate dogs without a home or hope from across India
  • Develop our sanctuary and hospital to provide world-class medical treatment
  • Create infrastructure such as a hydrotherapy pool for special needs dogs
  • Manage extensive renovation and upgradation of the enclosures and living areas for the dogs within the sanctuary
We reach out to you now with updates about VOSD’s activities over the past year so you can gain an insight into how we have expanded operations. Dogs are the reason we exist – we urge you to donate a token of love so we can take giant leaps forward and save hundreds of other dogs in need across India.

VOSD SANCTUARY IS STILL RECUPERATING AFTER FLOODS IMPACT https://youtu.be/dxjG6fnEIGQ
In late 2021, the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital faced demonic rains that we hadn’t seen in ten years since we built the sanctuary. It ravaged the low-lying areas of our facility leaving extensive property damage. Crore of rupees worth of infrastructure including the main 1,000-ft boundary on one side of the property, parts of our drainage system, many enclosures, and pathways were uprooted/destroyed during the cyclone-like showers.

Compound wall fell down after extensive battering by gushing rainwater in nearby Rajkalve
A section of granite pillars that was holding up a 1,000-ft compound wall completely collapsed in the continuous rain. Along with 4-ft deep concrete and rebar foundation, the wall was rebuilt and topped with 12-ft high steel beams, a steel mesh, steel roofing sheet, and razor wire.

Height raised of the whole sanctuary
Earthwork for contouring the existing land was done using concrete gullies and raising the height with 150-200 tractor loads of material. The work still continues this year to save our sanctuary from such unexpected weather conditions in the near future.

Living rooms for rescued pet dogs or aggressive pet dogs who used to live in homes
A set of individual kennels were refurbished for giant breeds like St. Bernards, Rottweilers, and Great Danes who were pet dogs but surrendered to us for various reasons. These cosy rooms are painted in a cheery yellow colour, and are fitted with cots, mattresses, paintings, fans, and lights – the idea being to replicate a ‘living room’ so they sense a feeling of belonging and the comfort of their previous homes.

SENIOR & SPECIAL NEEDS DOGS OF VOSD
There are five categories under which we admit dogs without any surrender fees (https://vosd.in/surrender-a-dog/) – one such category is for senior stray dogs brought into the VOSD Hospice. Often unwell and in dire need of intensive medical care, these old and infirm canines wouldn’t have survived on the streets and met a painful and sad end. However, at our sanctuary they are given comfortable accommodation, a nutritious diet and supplements, advanced medical care, and lots of love.

For the first time in Bengaluru, VOSD launched the first of a fleet of mobile veterinary clinics and hospitals. This ‘clinic on wheels’ will help revolutionise the medical care that pet & community dogs can avail. Dog parents, community dog caretakers, and rescuers won’t have to go to a hospital, our clinic will come to them!
The mobile clinic has been designed with:

  •  Stainless steel fixtures such as surgery & treatment table (with built-in drain), removable IV stand, kennels, and washing area to ensure bacteria-free surfaces after cleaning & disinfection
  • 100% non-corrosive metal washable floors
  • Four kennels each with built-in drainage so the dogs can have a safe and hygienic stay
  • Air-conditioned van so the dogs don’t overheat on the hottest days
  • Removable surgical light for precision during procedures
  • Power outlets to plug in hair dryers, trimmers, infrared heating & physiotherapy lamps
  • LED roof lights to operate with ease after dark
  • Air-conditioned & comfortable seating cabin for doctors, veterinary assistants, and a driver
Going forward, the VOSD Mobile Veterinary Clinic will offer for pet & community dogs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtIs1-jsCGI

Thank you for your continued support with us.

VOSD

Dear supporters,

Thank you for your support!

We are struggling to provide water for stray dogs, as we are facing a crisis for water at VOSD.  Last year the monsoon failed and we ran dry and had to buy water for a few months. We received concentrated rainfall in Sept-Oct after the monsoon season. Clearly it was not enough to recharge our surface and underground water. This year we have run dry a month earlier than last year. Water usage has increased as the number of dogs has increased. This is a water emergency for VOSD. Even if the monsoon is in time the rains are 4 months away till we have any sort of recharge above and below ground. We really need your help so we can provide sufficient water to the voiceless here at VOSD, for this same reason we have created a new campaign to concentrate on the water scarcity bit alone, please donate and keep supporting by donating in the link below:

Dear Supporters,

Thank you for supporting the projects VoSD hospital and sanctuary through our campaign in Milaap.

We are grateful to each and every one of you who donated, shared, liked and supported us in every way possible to help raise funds for the VOSD Hospital and VOSD Expansion project since last year on the Milaap platform.

Here is a special message from Rakesh Shukla, Founder VOSD.

https://youtu.be/U3dmXRalCuM

With the completion of the 10,000+ sq feet VOSD Hospital and 50+ high-quality kennels averaging 75-100 sq.feet which we could with your support, we started the VOSD Sanctuary expansion project for constructing houses for our babies on 28 plots measuring 150 sq feet of flooring + 150 sq feet of roofing with 10’ high concrete brick walls, plastered and painted with washable distemper & with 2 windows, 1 door (total 4200 sq feet of roofed area). 14 plots have been completed so far as you have seen in previous updates. Our plan is to double the land use and efficiency that will increase our capacity from ~900 dogs to ~ 1400 dogs.

Our heartfelt thanks to the entire Milaap team for their constant support and encouragement for this long campaign. We couldn't have done this without you! Your support has helped us give one of the best facilities to our voiceless friends. The response we recieved has inspired us to strive more for our shelter.

Here is an invoice which shows our expenses for the expansion project.

Thank you all again.
