Relief from power cuts in summers

Vasuki, a 35-year-old, lives with her husband and two children at a village in Trichy. She and her husband work as agricultural labourers. She had taken an energy loan of Rs 2,399 to buy a solar lantern. In the last one and half years, her family has benefitted from the lantern in various ways. "The onset of summer means that we would be facing acute power shortage. This has always been the case and the summer has started pretty early this year because of no rainfall in Tamil Nadu. In such times, having a solar lantern is really useful," said Vasuki. Vasuki and her family use the lantern for charging their phones too. She added that her children found it easier to study even without electricity, thanks to the solar lantern. . "We have been using the lantern on a regular basis for almost one and a half months now. Hardly has there been an issue with it," said Vasuki.
