We’ll Have No Choice But To Take Them Home, But Our Babies Won’t Survive That

“2 months...since 2 months my babies have been battling for their lives and in these 2 months, there have been a countless number of times when I had to hear ‘they are critical but we are doing our best to save them’. There are nights when I am wide awake, afraid that if I sleep, I might wake up and never see them again.”
- Varalaxmi, mother

Ramakrishna and Varalaxmi have been married for 6 years. In these 6 years, Varalaxmi went through two abortions. They lost all hope of becoming parents but these twins came as a blessing to them.

“I can’t tell you how happy we were when my pregnancy crossed the sixth month, up until then we worried that the complications will return again. My husband told everyone that we were going to have twins, he was so happy that day. He distributed sweets and we were eagerly waiting for our babies…”

I was giving birth to my babies but I was worried

However, just within a few days of their celebrations, Varalaxmi experienced labour pains and they couldn’t believe the babies were coming just in the 7th month.

“We went for a regular check-up. I was feeling fine but suddenly my water broke. I was giving birth to my babies but I wasn’t happy, I was worried. And just within seconds of my daughters’ birth, they were taken away from me and put on ventilator support.” - Varalaxmi

This farmer sold his land - his only source of income

Ramakrishna is a farmer who can’t farm on his own land anymore - he had to sell it to save his daughters.

“One or the other problem kept coming and the treatment cost kept increasing. Blood transfusions, tests,medicines... Rs 60-70 thousand every day! We have spent everything we got from selling our land and spent all our savings... I don’t know what I will do now.” - Rama Krishna

Just 3 weeks more and they can take their daughters home

These parents battled for so long and are so close to taking their twins home but they can’t afford their treatment for even a day more. Just three weeks and they can their daughters home.

“If I can’t afford the treatment I will have to take them home today and...and they won’t be able to survive that. I don’t want to give up after fighting for so long but… but I am helpless.” - Ramakrishna
