“My son was fine when he was born. His birth was a celebration in our family. Our happiness, however, did not last long. When he turned 6 months old, we had taken him for a free health check-up where we got to know that there was a hole in this heart. We were crushed on hearing this… From there my life has turned upside down. Soon, my husband abandoned my son and me. We haven’t heard from him ever since.” – Parimala, Mother
Sole breadwinner with a meager income of Rs 300 a day
Thirupathi (7) has been on regular treatment for years. His mother who is a coolie is the sole breadwinner of the family. With a meager income of 300 Rupees a day, she takes care of her son and aged mother. Thirupathi underwent heart surgery 8 months back. As if her struggles were not enough, she has to now arrange money for another surgery that would cost 5 Lakh Rupees.
"She only thinks about her son all the time..."
“My daughter is at the end of her rope. She has been raising her son all alone by working so hard and never letting him down in any way. She also has a hearing problem but never even thought of getting a hearing aid. She never wants to waste money on herself. Her son is all that matters to her. I hope God shows us some way to afford my grandson’s cardiac surgery and he leads a healthy life,”- grandmother of Thirupathi
He fainted due to fatigue and had to discontinue school
Thirupathi loves to study. However, when he went back to school after his last surgery, he fainted often in school due to fatigue. His teachers advised him to get rest at home and not stress his body immediately after the surgery. Hence, he had to discontinue this year. He is hoping to be physically fit for at least the next academic year.
“I have absolutely no money left. I am already neck-deep in debts. My only goal in life is to save my son and give him a good education so that he can achieve success on his own. You are my only hope.” – Parimala, Mother
