I’m Rupsha Roy, and my mother has been my hero since I was a child. For over 35 years, she worked with poor children and mothers—teaching, guiding, feeding them, and giving them hope. I always dreamed of growing up and making her proud, showing her the change I could create, just like her.
But today, she is fighting end-stage cancer that barely lets her breathe. I’m terrified I won’t be able to save her, the way she has saved so many children’s futures.

Last August, my mother had severe acidity and vomiting. When her vomit turned green, we rushed her to the hospital. The scans showed a gallbladder stone, and doctors operated immediately. We thought it was over. But one month later, the biopsy results broke us.

Now doctors say she needs another four cycles and another surgery that would cost 8 lakhs. Without it, the cancer will spread further, and it will be too late.

I have seen my mother leave for work early in the morning, return late in the evening, cook dinner, care for my father, and still check my homework. My fondest memories are of going with her to the schools where she taught. The children would run to her, calling “Maa,” their faces lighting up.
Today, cancer has drained her energy and taken her hair. She is pale, weak, and often too tired to even sit up. But she still asks about the children she once taught. She worries about what will happen to them if she is not there.

No One Else In The Family Can Work
My father is a cardiac patient who has survived two heart attacks. He cannot work and struggles to walk. My mother’s ₹8,000 monthly income was the only money we had.
To pay for her initial treatment, we sold our jewellery, used my college savings, and borrowed from friends and relatives. I am still in college and cannot earn enough to help her. Doctors say that every day without treatment, the cancer spreads.

I want my mother to live, to see the children she helped grow up, to continue her work, and to be here with me. She has given so many people a future.
Only your support can give her that chance.
Please help bring her back to me.
