I am Chandni, but most of the children call me Chandni Di. I wasn't always Didi, though. I grew up in a slum, a place where dust storms filled the air and finding food was a daily struggle. My slum childhood was brutal. After losing Dad, the weight of caring for my family crushed me.
Struggles Faced by Slum Kids:
- Poverty: Many families struggle to put enough food on the table.
- Lack of Education: Slum children often miss out on schooling due to financial constraints.
- Unhealthy Environment: Slums are overcrowded and lack proper sanitation, leading to health problems.
- Vulnerability: Children in slums are more susceptible to exploitation and abuse.
But then, I met inspiring NGO workers teaching slum kids. Witnessing their passion ignited a fire in me. I knew I had to make a difference. I started by promoting education and even reported on slum issues. But education wasn't enough. That's when Voice of Slum (VoS) was born.
Why I Started Feed The Slum:
- Fight Hunger: Many slum children go to bed hungry, which affects their health and ability to learn.
- Promote Education: A healthy body leads to a healthy mind. Good nutrition helps children focus in school.
- Break the Cycle of Poverty: Education and good health are crucial tools to break free from poverty.
Chandni Di is providing more than just meals
We launched Feed The Slum, offering hot meals in a clean space. Seeing their full bellies and happy faces, I knew proper nutrition was key to their bright futures.
