Final Year Law Student Who Aspires To Become A Judge Will Succumb To Severe Blood Disease Without Your Help

"My life feels like it's on hold now. I had big dreams and ambitions - I wanted to pass LLB with flying colours, and become a judge. but now I'm just sick. I cannot get out of my house without feeling really weak, and so I stay at home mostly. I am waiting for my fate to change somehow because it is out of my control. "- Sahana

Sahana, a vibrant 24-year-old final year law student, found her life drastically changed when she was diagnosed with aplastic anaemia, a rare condition where the bone marrow fails to produce enough blood cells last year. What started with a seemingly harmless fever soon revealed itself to be a severe illness. Despite being an athlete in school and college, Sahana now finds herself battling an enemy within.

"I had to miss my final year exams in November. It was devastating, knowing that my health was dictating my future. I have to attempt it again, but there is no guarantee that I’d be able to complete it because of how unpredictable my body is now. Only a bone marrow transplant can completely cure me.” - Sahana

‘The diagnosis shattered my daughter’s plans… she is depressed now’

Initially mistaken for a B12 deficiency, her condition deteriorated rapidly, necessitating frequent blood transfusions. Aplastic anaemia has brought her life to a standstill, leaving her unable to function normally. Every month, her blood count dips, causing symptoms like rapid heartbeat, difficulty breathing, severe knee and back pain, and intensified bleeding during her periods.

"It's heartbreaking to watch my daughter suffer every day. I can only offer moral support as we struggle financially. But no matter what I tell her, she is not convinced that things will get better. She is turning into another person; she is not the happy and cheerful girl she once used to be.”- Sunita, mother, tearfully.

It is impossible for them to afford the transplant

Sahana's husband, Rohith Raj, works as a clay artist, but his earnings are meager and inconsistent. As the sole provider for their joint family, including Sahana's elderly in-laws, he grapples with the crushing burden of financial responsibility. The staggering cost of a bone marrow transplant remains beyond their reach.

“We already have outstanding personal loans that we have not paid back. My husband is struggling to pay for my blood transfusions and my medicines that cost INR 15,000 every 15 days. I don’t know how I will undergo my transplant and if not, how will I survive for long?”- Sahana
She needs your help to afford the treatment that could save her life and restore her dreams.
