His brother got the same ailment but not the same chance to fight
In 1998, 15-year-old Kiran was rushed to the hospital 500km away due to internal bleeding. He went into COMA and was sent back home with no hope of survival by the doctors due to liver cirrhosis-permanent damage to the liver. But he bounced back in 2 days with his liver showing signs of functioning again.“Ever since then, I have been under treatment, until 2021, when I finally got a liver transplant. I had chances to fight for my life but my brother, he passed away within 10 days of falling sick due to the same ailment. Before we couldn’t even know or do something, we lost him.”- Kiran Kumar, recalling the demise of his brother that occurred 5 years ago.

Fate testing these parents once again
“It hasn’t been long since we took a sigh of relief that things will now be better and Kiran can finally not just dream but live a normal carefree life. But here we are, yet again fighting to save him. What has my poor boy or any of us have done to face this wrath of God again.”- Narayana Murthy, father
Time stands still with yet another fatal diagnosis- Kidney Failure. He is currently undergoing dialysis but without a transplant, he won’t be able to survive.

A dream of having a family of his own
Kiran never had a normal life. He had to pursue distant education during his graduation and did an MBA, hoping to start his own business. But whatever small business he tried, he couldn't scale up as sickness knocked on his door very often.“I never married due to my constant medical needs. In a year, I would stay healthy only for 4 months and the rest 6, would go away either sick in the hospital or getting treated at home. When I got the transplant I thought maybe I could start a family and, more importantly, take care of my ageing parents but this diagnosis has shattered all our dreams yet again. I am adamant to conquer this as well but financially, we are not capable to afford the treatment.”- Kiran Kumar

Kiran and his family hail from a middle-class background and over the past 20 years, they have spent more than 85 lakhs in Kiran’s treatment alone. Now, the only earning member of the family is the eldest brother but his income of 20 thousand rupees is not enough. Narayana Murthy is 70-year-old and retired. He had a heart surgery 2 years back and is on medication. While Satyavathi is doing everything she can to the best of her ability.
Over the years they have managed by taking help from family and friends and debts that took them years to clear out. But this time they have no source of affording the transplant.
