‘I Have Already Lost My Younger Brother And Father. I Cannot Lose My Only Surviving Sibling To Liver Disease. Help’

First, I lost my younger brother, then my father… and now my other brother is on the brink of death. I cannot lose him too. I need help to save him as he is very ill. If he does not get a liver transplant at the earliest, he will not survive. Please help me.” - Kanaklata, sister of the beneficiary

A few years ago, Kanaklata’s family was a picture of happiness. They led a modest but fulfilling life, filled with dreams and aspirations for the future. However, fate had other plans. Tragedy first struck when they lost a younger brother to a devastating illness. Their struggles intensified when her elder brother, Himanshu Kumar, was diagnosed with Wilson’s disease, a rare genetic disorder that causes excessive copper accumulation in the liver, brain, and other vital organs. Over time, the disease led to severe liver damage, neurological symptoms, and a drastic decline in his overall health. He is now surviving on borrowed time, and every moment is a race against his worsening condition.

‘Our father passed away after hearing that my elder brother’s condition is worsening..’

The weight of suffering proved unbearable for Kankalata and Himanshu’s father. Already dealing with the grief of losing one son, he was shattered upon learning about Himanshu's worsening condition. Unable to cope with the pain, he suffered a fatal brain hemorrhage, leaving the family further broken.

Kanaklata did not have the heart to tell her brother about their father’s passing. His fragile mental state was already deteriorating, and news of such a loss could push him beyond recovery. He would often become uncontrollably sad, screaming in anguish over his illness and its toll on his loved ones. As a husband and a father to a 12-year-old girl, he knew that his family depended on him. If he did not survive, his wife and daughter would be left without any support, a reality too painful to face.

How will I take care of my own family and my brother’s family? Everything has gone haywire after my father’s sudden death. It has badly affected the whole family. My mother barely talks. We are barely alive. We are scared that we will lose another one soon.” - Kanaklata, sister

‘My sister-in-law will donate her liver…but we have no funds to carry out the transplant’

With their father gone, and Himanshu sick, there is no breadwinner. Kanaklata, who had been supporting the family through her savings, had to leave her job to care for her brother full-time. The financial burden of his treatments, tests, and medications has depleted every last resource they had. Each injection, each medical test, and each consultation drains them further, leaving them in desperate need of help.

My sister-in-law is sacrificing her health to save her husband, but she also has a daughter who needs her. It is not easy for her, yet she is willing to give him a new life. But without funds, all our efforts will be in vain. My niece’s studies have been disrupted, and our family is falling apart. We need urgent help before it is too late.” - Kanaklata, sister
