"We had so many dreams as a couple. We wanted to build a happy home, have children, and grow old together. But everything came crashing down when we found out about his illness. Despite being married for four years, we had no children and this bothered us a lot. When we finally decided to start a family, the doctor shattered our hopes. He said that unless my husband gets an urgent kidney transplant, we cannot have a child—our baby might inherit the same disease. He is now unable to work, leaving my elderly father-in-law as the sole provider for our household."- Divya, wife of the beneficiary
Gunalan and Divya had been trying for a baby, desperate to silence the whispers of relatives and neighbours who taunted them for being childless. They underwent medical tests to ensure everything was normal, only to receive devastating news—Gunalan's kidneys were failing. Since that moment, their lives have spiraled downward. His condition is critical now, and without a transplant, he will not survive.

‘I too had to quit my job as a teacher to take care of him, and now, we are struggling’
Gunalan’s health is worsening with every passing day. His legs are swollen, his blood sugar and blood pressure are dangerously high, and he frequently vomits. He undergoes dialysis three times a week, each session draining him further. The once energetic carpenter, who took pride in his craft, now spends his days battling unbearable pain and fatigue. Some nights, he can barely sleep due to breathlessness, and Divya sits beside him, helplessly watching the man she loves suffer.
"He is very scared of losing me. At one point, he even thought I would leave him because I had to quit my job because of his illness. Many of my relatives also believe that I am wasting my life staying with someone who is so sick. But I don’t care what they say—he is my husband, and he is all I want. I will be there for him and help him recover."- Divya

The financial strain has left this couple shattered; they don’t have the funds for the transplant
Gunalan’s aged father, a carpenter, does earn, but it is not enough to cover treatment costs. Divya and Gunalan had to sell their small flat, along with every piece of jewellery and savings they had. Now, they live in a rented house with barely anything left. They have reached a point where even the vessels in their kitchen are being sold to afford his medicines and two square meals a day. Despite selling everything and spending over ₹5 lakhs on his treatment, they are still nowhere close to affording the cost of his transplant.

"Every day, I wake up with the fear that I might lose him. I cannot imagine a life without him, and I will do everything in my power to keep him alive. We just need a little help to get through this."- Divya
Gunalan needs urgent help. A kidney transplant is his only hope of survival, but they cannot arrange the funds alone.
