In Howrah, West Bengal, Gaurav Kumar Singh lived each day working as an employee at a private company, being the eldest son he became the pillar of support for his family. In November 2023, Gaurav's blood pressure abruptly shot up to abnormal levels, and his family immediately consulted the local physician. No one had expected it when after running the medical tests, he was diagnosed with stage 5 of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
The cost of his life-saving transplant is more than they can shoulder
At stage 5 of chronic kidney disease, Gaurav's kidneys are failing to do their function, causing grievous deterioration of his health. The doctor has stated that the damage caused is irreversible and the only option left to help him survive is to get him a renal transplant also known as a kidney transplant. The cost of which along with the donor investigation, pre and post-surgery hospital supportive care, and his weekly hemodialysis is estimated to be more than INR 13 Lakhs, the cost which his family is struggling to shoulder on their own.
“We can't afford the cost of his hospitalization so he is being treated at home where he goes through the regular hemodialysis that helps manage his condition but it is not the cure, he is under routine monitoring from the Vellore hospital. We spent more than 4 lakh rupees on his expenses through our savings, loans, and borrowing from the close ones but it hasn't been enough. Please help us, his health is worsening with each second and we feel so helpless against our circumstances.” - Raunak Kumar Singh, younger brother
Surviving on bare necessities, they need your help to save their eldest
Gaurav and his younger brother Raunak both work in different private companies, they are the only earning members in their family which consists of his elderly father Sanjay, who suffers from motor neuron disease, and mother Kanti, an 18-year-old sister Priyanka who has recently taken the 12th board exams, and Gaurav's wife Archana. It was in April of 2023 that Gaurav got married and only 7 months later, he suffered through the brutal fate of deteriorating health and dwindling finances.

So far, we managed to get him through the dialysis, regular checkups, and medications by exhausting the savings, incurring debts, and borrowing from our relatives. We have stretched ourselves thin and yet it hasn't been enough.It is heartbreaking to see how dull his eyes have become, how pained and terrified my family feels. He has always been our strength, our support, and a trustworthy person with whom we could easily share our highs and lows. There is nothing more my parents pray for than for the wellbeing of their children.” - Raunak
