"No mother should have to go through what I am facing currently. I have already lost two of my children at a very young age. If something happens to my only daughter, I don't think there will be any reason left for me to carry on..." - Parul, mother.
She had pinned all her hopes on her daughter, but misfortune followed her this time again
Parul has lived a life full of uncertainties and agony. She had lost her two children earlier almost soon after they were born due to unknown causes. This time around when her daughter was born, she prayed to every God she believed in. But, it was like misfortune was meant to be her close companion. Her daughter was born with a reddish-blue patch on her left leg. Though it was just a patch in the beginning, it slowly grew in size to turn dangerous."It feels like I am destined to suffer the agony of many lifetimes in one go. The moment I saw the patch on her leg I knew something was wrong. I consulted many doctors, but no one offered a proper solution. The patch grew in size and by the time she turned three months old, her left leg was swollen and bluish. It was my ill fate that was staring me in my face." - Parul, recalling with teary eyes
No treatment worked and the patch got severely infected
Parul sought treatment for her daughter's condition in various hospitals but whatever treatment they offered, made the situation worse. The patch which had grown in size, became infected and filled with pus. The infection had destroyed a lot of tissue due to which the bone was exposed through the wound." The infection aggravated the already deteriorating condition. She keeps crying all the time due to pain and fever. It drains the life out of me to see her suffer like this for no fault of hers. How can a child so young deserve this kind of extreme suffering?" - Parul, with vacant eyes
She finally found a hospital where they suggested a solution to her daughter's ailment, but the cost shattered her hopes
After relentless efforts, Parul finally met a team of doctors in a hospital who told her that the patch on her daughter's leg was a tumor. It would require surgical removal followed by plastic surgery to help her regain normal skin. This treatment option raised her hopes, but when they gave her an estimated cost of the treatment, she felt extremely helpless."The doctors gave me an estimate of 8.5 lakh rupees for her complete treatment, which is practically impossible for me to arrange. There is nothing worse than this. Though there is a way through which my daughter can be saved, I am unable to afford it and may end up losing her due to lack of funds. I can't even remotely imagine living with this guilt." - Parul, dejectedly
She has raised her daughter independently with no support from her husband
Parul has toiled hard to raise her daughter. Her husband works as a sweeper with no permanent job or regular income. Though he is still in their lives, he does not contribute in any way to their daughter's upbringing or in managing the treatment costs. Despite not receiving any financial support, she has stood firm in taking care of all her daughter's medical expenses."I have spent 60,000 rupees all by myself on her treatment till now. I arranged the money through my savings and took some money from my parents and relatives as a loan. But, it's all exhausted now, and have nothing left. I don't know how will I afford this huge sum of money needed for her surgery." - Parul, worried
She wants her daughter to grow up to become a well-educated and financially independent girl
Parul has suffered the pain of being poorly educated and being dependent on somebody for money. She doesn't want her daughter to undergo the same ordeal. Therefore she wishes to resume working as soon as her daughter gets operated and recovers, so that she can save money for her education."There is no glory in poverty. It's a curse that can be broken by good education. I will leave no stone unturned to help my daughter break through these shackles of misfortune and misery. I hope there are good souls out there who will help me save my only daughter and support us with open arms." - Parul
