This 1-Year-Old Can’t Breathe on His Own. He Needs Your Help to Survive

Ten days ago, this one-year-old was rushed to the hospital with what seemed like a simple fever. Within hours, his breathing became laboured, and his small body struggled to keep up with the infection spreading through his lungs. Doctors soon confirmed that he was suffering from severe acute respiratory distress syndrome caused by an adenovirus. Today, he lies in the pediatric Intensive Care Unit, connected to a ventilator that is helping him breathe as his lungs fight to recover.

The infection rapidly filled his lungs with fluid

Fluid quickly filled his lungs, reducing the oxygen reaching his body and making even assisted breathing difficult. As his oxygen levels continued to fluctuate despite treatment, doctors had to place him on a ventilator to stabilise him and ensure his organs received enough oxygen. During this critical period, he also developed seizures and septic shock, requiring urgent medical care and constant monitoring. What began as a simple fever turned into a life-threatening emergency within days, demanding round-the-clock ICU treatment.

He remains under intensive observation

Currently, he remains in the ICU on ventilator support and continuous monitoring. Doctors are closely tracking his oxygen levels, blood pressure, and other vital markers to see how his body is responding to treatment. While there have been slight signs of stabilisation, his condition remains fragile and he still depends on intensive care. His recovery will require careful monitoring and gradual reduction of ventilator support to avoid further complications.

At home, his parents are trying to cope with a crisis they never imagined

They live in a rented house, and his father works as a teacher with a modest monthly income that barely covers household expenses. The hospital bill for the initial days of treatment has already crossed ₹3 lakh. Doctors have estimated that the total cost of treatment, including ICU stay, medicines, and investigations, may touch ₹9 lakh or more depending on the duration of care. The family has no savings large enough to meet these mounting expenses.

They need your help as soon as possible

He is too young to understand the machines around him or the urgency in the voices that fill the ICU. For now, he is simply fighting for breath, supported by medical care that must continue without interruption. With sustained treatment, doctors believe he has a chance to recover. The family is seeking support to ensure that financial limitations do not stand in the way of the critical care he urgently needs.
