I Am 67, And I Sold Everything To Save 600 Innocent Lives

I Am 67, And I Am Still A Mother To 600

My name is Sharda Radhakrishnan. I am 67 years old. At this age, people tell me I should rest, spend time with my grandchildren, take care of myself. But instead, I spend my days and nights caring for over 600 injured and abandoned animals.

Seventeen years ago, I saw a dog hit by a car. Everyone walked away, but I could not. That day changed my life. I left my teaching job, built a small shelter, and since then, thousands of animals have found a home in Chhaya.

At This Age, I Should Have Slowed Down… But I Cannot

My knees ache. My body is weaker now. But when I see a blind horse stumble, or a dog cry in pain, I forget my age. I wake up before dawn, I walk through every corner of the hospital, I make sure no animal sleeps hungry.

I have sold my jewellery. I even sold my home. I cut down staff salaries, but never stopped the treatment. Because how do you explain to a suffering animal that there is no money to save them?

My Fear Today

Running Chhaya takes almost ₹10 lakh every month. Medicines, food, surgeries, rescues—it never stops. But donations are fewer, and costs are rising. At 67, I am scared: what will happen to my children if I cannot keep this place alive? They have nowhere else to go.

I Am Asking You

Every day, I stand strong for them. But today, I need you to stand with me. Your help can feed them, heal them, and keep them safe.

I have given all my years, all my strength, all my belongings. Please, give me your support, so that when I am gone, Chhaya will still live on for them. At 67, I am still a mother. Please don’t let me fail my children.

💚 Donate today. Every rupee saves a life.
