A perfectly healthy boy weighing 3 kgs, made Soni and Munna ecstatic. Their house was full of celebrations because this was the first child of their family. Since pregnancy, Soni had decided if they had a boy, they would name him after our Indian Air Force officer - Abhinandan and they did. They had such big dreams for him and now he might not live to fulfill them.
Abhinandan was born in July and was perfectly fine. But since October he had been straining himself too much while breathing and his constant coughing seemed alarming to his parents. As soon as they reached hospital, they got to know he is suffering from Bronchopneumonia, a type of pneumonia, a condition that causes inflammation of the lungs.
In just 2 hours, my baby was on ventilator..struggling to breathe on his own
“I thought it was just a minor cold as babies keep having that. Once or twice when he had it, he got back to normal within a day or two. This time it was not that, but pneumonia so he had to be urgently hospitalized. I am still not able to process how in just a few hours, my baby fell unconscious... at the risk of succumbing any moment.” - Munna, father
Munna washes cars at a garage while Soni works as a domestic help. Together they were making about Rs.6,000 and supporting their family of 6. But soon when his elderly father got bed-ridden, his mother too had to start working at a tailor’s shop to support his treatment costs. Munna also has the responsibility of his younger sister. Amidst all this, with Abhinandan’s condition being so critical, they had to spend all their savings of about 2 lakhs on his treatment.
Medicines alone costs Rs.8000 daily, still that is not enough to save him
“I have spent every saving, every piece of jewellery that I had. At this age, my mother has to go to work. I do not know what to do and how to handle everything. I try to stay strong for my wife but I just can’t control my tears and I break down on seeing my 2 month old baby like this. They tried to take him off ventilator but he showed no recovery and had to be put back on it. The money I had saved was for Abhinandan’s future, now what will I do with this future if its without him?” - Munna,father
At 2 months, Abhinandan is suffering from bronchopneumonia that requires intensive ventilator support and PICU care. This will cost them about 5 lakhs but his parents are not in a position to arrange such an amount alone. They really need your help to hold Abhinandan again in their arms. Please help them.
