The name “Yein Udaan” is an amalgamation of two languages – Tamil (‘Yein’ meaning ‘My’) and Hindi (‘Udaan’ meaning ‘Takeoff’). We run an after-school community center to provide continuous training in academics, life skills, cultural activities and value education to children, while supporting their parents through counselling, education and employment opportunities in Chetpet’s Dhobi Khana community, located in central Chennai.

We are raising these funds to help keep the centre up and running! Filings from our first financial year taught us that we need a minimum of 2,00,000 to:
1. pay rent, and water and electricity charges - without the space, there'd be no program!
2. procure healthy snacks for the children - they are given milk and either dates or chikkis or nuts everyday, to stay healthy and alert!

3. printing and stationery - we create and print many, many, MANY worksheets for our students to use as learning aids!
4. transportation costs to take the kids for events - like Kathak shows, stage productions, museums and planetarium, carnivals, etc., to help them gain exposure to opportunities that privileged kids have easy access to!
5. pay the salaries of our staff - without them to supervise and run the program, we would be lost!
