    Vinod kumar

    from Hyderabad

It was a regular morning for our friend Vinod until things went horribly wrong. A  sudden slip in the bathroom, and he lost all sensation from his neck down. He was completely immobile, All classic symptoms of a spinal cord injury. Recognizing that, we promptly rushed him to Gandhi hospital on a bike which unfortunately may have aggravated Vinod’s situation and to add to his misery, his toes got stuck in the bike wheel. Four of the toes on the left foot required amputation. A happy morning ended as one of the saddest days in our friend’s life.

At this point, would like to mention  that Vinod is an orphan, having lost both parents a few years ago and is the sole breadwinner of his family. He left his job in Bangalore to return to Hyderabad on their demise to act as guardian to his 2 younger brothers both of whom are students with no support from any other family. Basically he became a parent overnight and we became his only family. Post Vinod’s struggle at Gandhi hospital, he was almost completely paralyzed and needed further specialist attention. So we shifted him to SVS Institute of Neurosciences. Here he was diagnosed for spinal nerve compression and required immediate surgery. We were concerned regarding his recovery after surgery, since he is still  almost immobile from his neck down, with very limited limb movement. As a result of our online research on neurological rehabilitation for Vinod, we identified SuVitas as the most suitable place for his recovery.

Despite all of us doing our best and chipping in with our money, we were not in a position to pay for his treatment as per the rehab rates especially after all the hospital costs incurred. We spoke to SuVitas management and managed to convince them to take Vinod  on the promise that we would raise the funds for his treatment. They also wanted to help and even accommodated him at short notice, when we had nowhere to take him and the hospital was ready to discharge him. Under these circumstances, it is extremely difficult for us to meet Vinod and his brothers financial needs for Vinod’s treatment and as well his younger brothers living and study expenses. As friends we have committed a monthly amount to his care and would request funding from one and all to support our friend so that he and his family can get their normal life back.Every 5000 rupees we collect will help us get an additional day of care for this vulnerable family unit. Please help!
